You know it's a good thing I started posting in this forum recently, otherwise we'd end up with alot of missing days.
Had the day off today so I spent most of my time on my 360 playing Dead or Alive 4. Also dl'd an X-Box Live Arcade game called 3D Ultra Golf or something like that. It's pretty good.
QotD: How do you feel about anime? Do you see it as viable entertainment or just the japanese version of saturday morning cartoons?
Personally I love anime. I have a small collection which i hope to expand someday. My favs are Trigun, Naruto, Outlaw Star, Sailor Moon (make fun I don't care), and Tenchi Universe (the best of the 3 Tenchi anime). People have call anime "Cartoons" are ignorant. You would NOT sit a 7 yr old kid in front of something like Blood+ or Love Hina. Most anime are meant for teenagers and older with very deep and sometimes adult storylines and characters. Look forward to seeing you guys' opinions on this. List your favs too if you like it.

From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style.

QOTD: Akira, duh. Gokiburi (Twilight of the Cockroaches) ain't quite anime, being that it's sorta like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, only with animated cockroaches and stop-motion talking turds instead of Roger & Co., but I wanted to give it a shout-out anyway.
Should I be posting in the fdrink thread instead? Heh.
You'll pardon me if I laugh at that sentence, yes?Rone Rivendale wrote:People have call anime "Cartoons" are ignorant.

Anime is cartoons. But that isn't to say that all cartoons are for kids.
Most anime is just as shitty as how most American cartoons are. Back in the 90s, a bunch of American kids got infatuated with the good stuff, and then all the budget-minded American TV producers got wind of it and started importing anime as a result. Of course, what they started to import was the cheap kid-oriented bullshit like Yu-Gi-Oh and whatever.
Being Japanese doesn't make a cartoon automatically awesome, and being American doesn't make it automatically terrible.

I particularly like Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Spirited Away... others too, but I don't recall what right now. I would like to see Trigun, I've heard good things.
Question 2: Japanese audio with English subtitles (subbed), or dubbed English audio? I much prefer subbed.

My god damned TV broke. Well, I'm not sure if you'd call it broken: everything still works, except all the darks have been replaced with blindingly white static. It's not broken enough to keep me from playing Smash Bros Brawl all day tomorrow.
I think most of the good stuff has already been mentioned. Ghost in the Shell the movie (not the slow-as-molasses tv show), Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind (old but damn good). As far as tv shows go, I find a lot of anime either starts good and turns to crap or starts silly and then turns to pure gold by the end. Trigun, Evangelion and Death Note all fit one of those two descriptions (although, honestly, Trigun is much superior to the other two on a whole). I hear good things about Beck, but haven't watched any.
Paprika, eh? Must check that out.
Are you suggesting those two are mutually exclusive?Rone Rivendale wrote:Do you see it as viable entertainment or just the japanese version of saturday morning cartoons?

Hey, how exactly is a rainbow made? How exactly does the sun set? How exactly does the posi-trac rear end on a Plymouth work? It just does.Reïst wrote:Anime seems unrealistic to me. Honestly - how do their mouths open that wide?

But yeah, I like the more realistic toons where a baby can talk, but only the dog can hear him, and the dog can talk, but only the baby and his owner can hear him and he has a human girlfriend that can hear him too.
.....has anyone given any thought to the fact that Brian and Gillian have sex?
I can never look at Drew Barrymore anymore without picturing her doin' it doggy style. hubba
