of course it goes without saying that having the chance to sing alongside the awesomeness of the hell yeahs would rule. and heather, you owe me nothing! i've asked you for favors bunches of times and you guys always come through.
JB, Jim, Jack = Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion
which i guess makes phil the snake charmer/wizard of oz.

I'm reviewing again! Yes, something must be wrong with me.
"Piece of my heat"
RATINGS SYSTEM IS FROM 1 to 10
1 being poor and 10 being excellent
NOTE: The opinions expressed by Glenn Case are not necessarily the views of anyone.
-----------------------------------------------
Big Matt Hyatt and his Rusty Red Ryders: The intro sounds like an Atari 2600 Chicken Alarm Clock (tm). While it was cute once, it doesn't seem necessary to have used it more than once. Especially since it isn't in time with the music. I am not finding this amusing, really. The singing is off-key more often than it is on. Rhythm is a great concept that you seem to be attempting to avoid. The reason this song does not get a 1, is because you sound like you were trying to make a funny song, and were not necessarily just trying to waste the listener's time.
2 of 10.
ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: A Nashville Star reject who has kidnapped the judges and is forcing them to hear his second audition.
----------------------------------------------
Hillbilly: I like the tone of the guitar a lot. Is it just me or is this mastered way low? Vocals have some character to them, and I like that. Hard to understand the words, mainly because of the volume issue.
6 out of 10.
ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: John Prine
----------------------------------------------
The Def Author: I felt like I had a contender when I was making this. I think a lot of people can relate to wanting to get revenge on that damned dog. I am not completely happy with my mixdown, but in my opinion, I think this might be one of the better rap tracks I have done. I am not ashamed of the track, but the mix? a little. Giving myself this high of a rating seems lame, but I really am kinda proud of it.
8 out of 10.
ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Weird Al Yankovic
-----------------------------------------------
Gareth Duncan: I like the guitar tone, I love the vocal harmonies. Vocal intonations may not be perfect, but they don't take anything away from the song. Taking a song with a basic sounding chord structure, and making it sound interesting is a tough task. If this came on in my car, I am not sure if I would crank the volume up, but I probably wouldn't turn it off.
7 out of 10
ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: The Pixies (Sure, there would be extra energy and a bassline that stood out more.)
-----------------------------------------------
Andy Balham feat. Kapitano: I like the guitar tone, and I do not like the vocals. Amazingly, that just about says it all. The music doesn't offend much, despite threatening to de-rail at any moment. Vocals completely rub me the wrong way.
5 out of 10
ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Neil Young with Pearl Jam
-----------------------------------------------
Edge of LA: Drums sound a bit cheesy. I have a soft spot for 80's stuff, admittedly, but this song's vocals are only marginally better than the Andy Balham feat. Kapitano entry as I see it. The harmonies are actually pretty good though. I would like to hear a little more energy in the song, because it sounds lifeless, like you're going through the motions. It may be the drum sounds that kill this song more than anything else. I hear potential for a decent song in here that I would actually enjoy.
5 out of 10
ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Duran Duran
-----------------------------------------------
The Hell Yeahs: *wicked grin* Do you hear those opening guitars? THAT is energy, ladies and gentlemen! If you could see me now, you would notice that I am dancing in my chair. This is some good stuff here. The stops are great, and the vocals work well. Kick in at 1:12 has me thrashing around like a maniac. I don't normally participate in mosh pits, but I could see myself being tempted to join one at that point in the song. Lyrics are cool too. Yeah, this is good stuff. Rachael is probably going to love it.

ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Tilt
-----------------------------------------------
Deshead: Nice production and kick in. I LOVE the vocals. WOW what a bridge at :44! I am only about a minute into this song, and I can already tell that this is going to be amongst my favorite songfight songs ever. Yes, this one is going to go on repeat play in my future. You sound like a true expert of the studio, and this sounds professional in every way as far as I am concerned. Pretty much radio ready, if the radio actually played good music these days. I was going to give this a 9, but the bridge is too damned good.
10 out of 10
ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Audioslave
-----------------------------------------------
Johnsonic: Wicked guitar tone. Nice rhythm that brings the evil grin to my face. Can't really understand the lyrics, but french fries and ketchup? Vocals fit the song nicely. 1:48 seemed like too long to wait until throwing a switch-up into the song, and when it happened, it didn't do much for me. Yeah, the switch seems forced. It feels like you had this kick-ass verse going, and you couldn't come up with anything else, so you just threw something in there so it wasn't completely empty. So, half the song is pretty cool, the other half? meh.
7 out of 10
ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Toadies
-----------------------------------------------
The Bloody Hams: The HAMS! I love you guys! I was at your debut concert! I like the overall sound of the song a lot. The mix is great! The hook on the chorus isn't too bad. This is a solid songfight entry, overall. Is that a flute? nice! I bet this would sound terrific live. Not supremely memorable, but not bad at all.
8 out of 10
ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Pink Floyd with Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull
-----------------------------------------------
Kamakura: Vocals fit this song better than the other Kamakura based entry in this fight, but they still don't blow me away. Basic chord structures are a double edged sword, really. They can make a song sound instantly familiar, which is good and bad. This is okay, I have heard worse, but in this fight I have definitely heard better.
5 out of 10
ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Collective Soul
-----------------------------------------------
Tiggernaut: Intro got the "What the hell is this?!" look out of me. That has to be what you were shooting for. Different versions of this look continued to cross my face for the duration of the track. I can't believe I listened to the whole thing, and it's only 1:50! This is stupid.
1 out of 10
ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Some things should only ever be recorded once. Some things should never have been recorded in the first place. This 'song' fits into the latter category.
-----------------------------------------------
PiGPEN: The rapper's flow is non-existant. The beat is lifeless. Pretending to be 'gangsta' is lame under most circumstances. Please take note of this.
1 out of 10
ARTIST I HEAR COVERING IT: Del (if someone stripped away his talent, and gave him a lobotomy)
-----------------------------------------------
I WILL VOTE FOR: Deshead

Just because Heather said so, I'm going to do some reviews, not that any of you need my "expert" opinion. I think this is more likely the opinion of a regular guy. I have an hour and a half to do these... so I think I can listen to most of the songs 4-5 times.
Andy Balham and Kapintano. So... 1st listen, not grabbing me but it's still got some more time. I do like the whole ashes to ashes part. Second time through is better, I like the solo and the balance... but the interesting voice is starting to turn me off. Ok last time... the song is starting to make less and less sence, I'm actually getting kind of dizzy woah...
-all around preety good. Not good enough for a vote though.
Bloodyhams. again 4-5 listens. right away I hate that intro. The song is a little more grabby. Through out background singers are good. Bam! Solo section, not sure what it is, but I love it. Oh lord this is getting long... 2nd listen coming up: stil h8in the intro until the guitar gets in. Again long and repetitive, and I want to rave about the next so, no time for you.
-Decent... tied with the one before you.
DefAurthor: Let em start by telling you I hate rap with a venging passion. But this is so hot.... oh god, my classmates wonder why I was laughing so hard as I sit here and listen to this. It is ingenious. It is true. Oh crap, I grabbed the end of the nintendo craze back in the day and I also hated that dog. You are awesome.
-If I had to pick a song I though was the most fuuny or well thought out lyrics and theme this would be it but I have had a taste of some song that are a bit more musical that I feel inclined to vote for. This song is easily my runner up. Awesome man! SUCK A DUCK!
DesHead! I love you man, did I ever tell you, I feel like we've been friends forever. I thionk maybe we're even brothers. Ok, enough being a crazed drunk fan. I'd say this is the sweetest thing I've ever heard 'round these parts. I used to think Josh was amazing before he stoped being able to come up with new ideas. But the last 3 times I have heard you the songs have been so different but good. I was a bit dissapointed last week, but I'll forgive you for this. Wow.
-Ok, I liked everything about this. The words the singing. The music, the tamboreen! Wow! The well.... you get the idea. All around good balance and well. I'm on head phones, last time I switched your song to speakers there was a bit much bass, but I think I'll just nver try this one on speakers so I don't get disapointed if that is the case. Awesome Man.
Edge of LA: I like this song right away. It remind me of brian wilson, if you've heard some of his newer work. I'd say if I didn't like deshead so much I'd vote this way. The singing and overall warm sound make it worth listening too. I listened to this a few times, and it didn't get better it just was good and stayed that way.
-So I'd say tied with DefAurther for runner up.
GarethDuncan: I feel like I've heard this before. Kinda cliche' in the way all these lyrics were already used in the early 90's. The music though is cool and also well mixed in the ears of my head phones. I like it... it's just something sounds to0 framiliar.
Hell Yeahs: Abrasive. That's the word I was thinking of before. The music is hot and happening and grabs me in the way I don't feel comfortable with.
Hillbilly. I just can't move on so fast I listen to all these moving happening songs and here coems this. The order screwed you my friend. Kinda quiet but I just can't move on right now. I'm sorry.
John Sonic: Jamin again. Sweet Baby. I like the bass line... I could definatly listen to this a few times. The background stuff happening is driving me nuts though... maybe I could listen to this twice. I'm starting to go crazy... oh crap it stopped. That middle section with no lyrics and that other stuff was starting to give me a headache. Ah, it's back I have to stop sorry.
Kamakura: OH crap this sounds like the works of a child abducter who rapes and eventually kills the victim... and then rapes again. It's so... ugh... I'm going to cut this short. That voice bugs me.
Matthyect... Wow. Not sure what's happening.
PigPen: You had better be black, and I don't meant to be racist. I just don't like the idea of the white man doing the ghetto thing. I
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
HHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTEEEE
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE this crap. Sorry.
Tiggernaut: Dude. No. I hate this crap too.
This fight took all the listenable songs and crammed them at the top and all the Sh*t filtered to the bottom. Except you Jon Sonic, I'd bump you up a few places.
1. Deshead! 2. Probably some hugegantic tie between def, la, and gareth 3. JS or BH, you decide. but third place doesn't really count.

pigpen, it's not that we aren't very observant, it's that we ARE very observant. things that you might not deem important to being integral to a "good song" we may find to be very important. you seem very defensive over your entry. obviously a number of folks have shown a dislike for it, but try to take the criticism here with a grain of salt. everything you read here is just an opinion so try to keep that in mind before you start tossing around personal insults directed towards people you don't know. glenn's criticisms were about your song, not you. yet you responded with a personal attack. keep in mind that glenn is also one of the best rappers here, and he rarely gives feedback period, so it wouldn't hurt to try to gain some insight from his feedback instead of instantly dismissing it with a "suck my cock" comment.PiGPEN wrote:sheesh, you lot arent very observant.SaxManRunning wrote:PigPen: You had better be black, and I don't meant to be racist. you know, sometimes the songs that get the worst feedback in the forum actually win. just ask the iron clef

Hi!
Andy Balham feat. Kapitano This has a Bowie meets Neil Young feel. [edit] deleted comment, I am fucking crazy]. [/edit] I keep waiting for something to happen. That lead is sad. Overall I enjoyed it. Nice.
The Bloody Hams The low vocals have no power at all. I don’t mean loud, just seems like your whispering and at points they bled with the music too much. The flute is a nice touch. If you say “piece of my heat” one more damn time… heh.
The Def Author This is fun and creative.
Deshead Nice intro. Dude, Aren’t you the dude from Blind Mellon? Oh wait, he died, nm. But on a positive note, I loved Them so you get extra bonus points for that. Well sung and phrased lyrics. Layout is excellent. Serious contender.
Edge of LA Started too sharply. Everything , with the exception of the vocals is compressed way too much! I am bored at two minutes and I just noticed it is only half over. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Gareth Duncan It starts like a guy and guitar song. Yep. Bring up the drums. Bring down the guitar. Add shakers and kick ass bass line, then I might even vote for it.
The Hell Yeahs Great sound as always. Drums are programmed very, very well.
Hillbilly Nice country intro. The vocals sound forced and whiney, when I can hear them well enough to make out the words. Not bad. I like country, this one leaves me short.
Johnsonic Rocking intro. Sounds over compressed. Not bad but not good enough for 4 min. Lyrics are pretty bad. That break is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay toooooo loooong. I like the guitar.
Kamakura Sappy off the start. “Hey Cutie Pie” I don’t like the lyrics at all. The music is pretty good.
Big Matt... The intro is so bad, I almost have to rip it, but I will listen… Oh my god, I can feel my IQ dipping the further I listen to this.
PiGPEN Wow, I don’t like rap. BUT I can tell when it is bad… Yo yo homey, malo muy malo!
Tiggernaut Ok, this sucks and I find no talent in this.
