Anybody who knows how to make a style for phpbb 3.0, please step forward. The default style is pretty annoying.
Lots of new admin features though, and the whole sub-forum and threading and attachments and whatnot seem cool. And mods can now merge topics and posts! Woot! Now to figure out how it all works...
One thing this new forum does sacrifice, however, is the ability to include HTML in your posts and sigs. I'm not sure exactly what the deal is with that, but I'm sure there were lots of arguments about it. Anyway, get used to BBCode, everybody.
Did anybody actually use html? I guess they assume that the basic html people know is replaced by bbcode. I think it's alright. Attachments will be pretty useful, especially due to the nature of this forum, with all the musical collabing and whatnot.
My one suggestion right now - change "a short text to describe your forum" to something relevant to the website (I'm sure you would do it anyway, but it just sits up there haunting me, and there's nothing I can do about it).
I kind of like the search bar up at the top there too.
ps - the Friends and Foes thing is awesome! I could put BLT as a foe and the forum would load twice as fast! Not that anybody really has foes around here though, right? We're all pretty tight.
this is the ugliest board i have ever seen.
i do like the foes feature though.
it will keep me from scrolling through certain fighters lengthy rambings.
I only ever use HTML. BBCode sucks ass and works really, really sporadically, or worked sporadically. To me a href=url is a lot more natural than square bracket url=blah blah blah square bracket. I hate having to learn some bullshit made-up language instead of being able to use what I use everywhere else on the Internet ever.
Also, ugly as hell, also I can't tell what's new posts and what isn't anymore.

Yeah, I'm another HTML user... OCCASIONALLY I'd use the little shortcuts that produced the bbcode but for the most part I used HTML tags. I too am going to miss the 'view posts since your last visit' search shortcut. Not the end of the world, especially if it makes the mods/administrators lives easier.
While I don't like the look..its functional and I don't really care all that much either way. I've never had a fancy telephone...pink... mickey mouse, whatever, but my phone always worked.
In the profile edit section, there's some "controls" for avatar dimensions that might help unsquish the avatars. That's the assumption, anyway. Dunno if the 80pixel limitation is set in stone now, due to technical difficulties of my own, completely unrelated to the changes here.
The big problem I had with BBCode, aside from the reasons that Marcus already stated so eloquently (and the fact that it's inconsistent and retarded), is that it insists on opening links in a new window. If I want to open links in a new window I'll middle- or cmd-click it. God damnit.
Did the SongFight! logo on the earlier board header not take you back to the songfight.org main page? Which is handy to switch beteen the forum and, say, the music archive.
(And yeah the previous board looked far better, and matched the main page. Oh well, all in good time.)
I don't totally hate the new board style, everything runs a *lot* smoother, it's just... that feeling of disorientation after hanging out on the same old board for so long, then it's suddenly different. If I could make one request, it would be PUT THE DAMNED AVATARS BACK ON THE LEFT.
Also, at another phpbb board I frequent, there's several themes to choose from in your prefs, could you install some more so we could customize to personal taste? This default one is okay, but there's some way nicer ones out there. http://www.phpbb3styles.net/
In any case, I think the upgrade is beneficial to this community.
