That "Flawless" Acapella

I'm wanting to produce my vocals so well that I can just have them solo'd off by themselves and everything still sound wonderful. I'm trying to design a mental checklist of things to do here. I guess there are three things I'm looking for advice on:

1.) Tips for producing the best possible recording. Whether that means a post dedicated to singing, pitch, breath control, etc, or tips on what environment is best to record in, whatever. I'm not above the basics here, so I'm not gonna act arrogant and what not towards advice.

2.) Tips for mixing and mastering that recording. By mix, I'm referring to techniques for doubling up vocals nice and proper, etc. I'm a baritone, if that's got anything to do with how I EQ things up.

3.) Things I could do to spice things up with the whole thing. Tricks with panning, or crazy little fun things.

I don't know how much sense this post will really make, but let's just consider it a broad category question that I'll accept any relevant advice on.

My first suggestion would be to dig through the archives of this forum. There has been a lot of advice given about singing over the years. A few judicious searches should reveal some good info.

The only tip I have for doubling up is that it takes practice. When I double vocals I sing each line about 10 or 12 times each until I get 2 takes that sound almost identical. Best done when the house is empty - because singing the same words over and over again (especially my words) drives people mad.
