DRC: Got Monday off as usual. So lots of 360 and computer today. At this very moment I'm listening to Weezer's debut album for the 1st time. Was already a Weezer fan before but never heard their 1st outing other than Buddy Holly which I've sang dozens of times on Rock Band.

QotD: Have you ever bought a CD from a band, didn't like it, got rid of the CD, and then later on discover you actually LIKE the band and regret getting rid of the CD? lol

I have. I saw the video for Hash Pipe from Weezer several years ago so I bought the album it belongs to, don't remember the title off hand, and it turned out I didn't like any of the songs other than Hash Pipe so I got rid of it. And then a few years later I started really likeing Weezer and I was like damn I should have kept that CD.

Luckily I've been listening to Melvin for the last 3 years, that's almost like listening to Weezer.

Roll Call: I got the keys to the studio yesterday! It's a one-room space in a mill building. It's gonna be my headquarters for band practices and recording and whatnot. And the best part is, the spinning emergency lights are like a built-in disco! Yay!




Qotd: Funny you should mention. I got rid of my Soul Coughing CDs years ago, and just got to thinking about them so I got their first two albums again.

QotD: "Shylingo" by Tim Gibbons, which I got at Amoeba in Berkeley 'cause it had a song called "Lolita." (which I had never heard, but, y'know). Decided that was the only song I liked, so I passed it on to my brother in law, who takes all my rejects and uses the jewel cases to replace broken ones on other CDs. I had made a few MP3s of other songs and finally decided, "yeah, I do like this," so I checked with Martin and he still had it, so I even managed to get it back!

Spent the morning getting something recorded for "A Problem Of Perspective" in time to submit. Was gonna do just a guy and guitar thing to conserve my arms for the next Nur Ein title, but you know how that goes... it probably could have used a bit more lead guitar than it got, but overall not too bad a song, and I'm kinda pleased with myself for being able to pull the recording together in a couple of hours.

No commitments for the day, just the usual pile of things that need taking care of...

I have never gotten rid of a CD (on purpose) in my life. However, my car was once broken into, and all the CDs were taken, save one. An Octothorpe CD was left on the front seat. Talk about adding insult to injury - there's the definitive version.

DRC: Work sucks today.

QOTD: NO. I have lost many CD's to theft, moves, ex-girlfriends, damage, but I have never given away a CD that I would later regret. The closest was a Korn CD that I only half liked. (the one that featured Fred Durst on a song or two) Later I thought it would have been kind of nice to have ripped the songs I did like. (but I just downloaded those later)

I gave away Nevermind after buying it for the one song Smells Like Teen Spirit which to this day I actually really like. I only like two songs by Nirvana and it turns out one of them is a cover. Giving away Nevermind was the right thing to do.

Oddly enough, BLT, my answer to the QotD is the same as yours. I got rid of Weezer's Green Album a long time ago, and recently had a mysterious hankering for it again.

Then I pirated it and remembered that I wasn't missing much. "Island in the Sun" sucks, and the rest is just okay. "Simple Pages" was probably the best song on the album, but even then it wasn't great.

DRC: My last paper is due at midnight. Whee.

Someone gave it to me way before I was ready for it; I thought it was crap so i gave it away.
Years later it came back to me.... that time around I could not let go of it.

AOTD: i have a similar experience with a live show. when the pixies were opening for U2 in 91 or 92, they played a headlining show in Kalamazoo, MI, which i attended. at the time, the opening band (a local band called Rollinghead) didn't impress me at all. actually, i paid no attention, because i wanted to see the pixies. well, 5 years later, after rollinghead broke up, i became a major fan. i regret not paying attention to them at the pixies show. btw: the pixies were as boring in concert in the early 90's as they were on their last tour.

same venue, around the same time, i saw the smashing pumpkins open for RHCP (who i can't stand). the opening band was Pearl Jam, literally days before they blew up on MTV. again, i paid no attention to them, but ended up buying Ten probably a week later when they were everywhere. and yes, eddie vedder climed all the way around the balcony of The State Theatre like he does in the Even Flow video. btw: is anyone a pearl jam fan anymore? vitalogy ruined them for me.

QOTD: No. But someone did steal my TISM double album, Machiavelli and the Four Seasons/Machines Against the Rage. Which is a shame, I loved that album.

Rone - it's awesome you're getting into Weezer. I've just been discovering them in the past few weeks, and I'm loving every moment of it. Now, once I get my paycheck, I'll probably pick up their entire discography.

qotd: No, I've never gotten rid of an album. I tend to lose them for lengthy periods of time though ... my memory is comparable to quicksand. It's there for like 30 seconds to a minute, but stuff just disappears after a while.

You know Reist it's interesting. Weezer appears to be just the right amount of famous so that alot of people like them but it isn't 'cool' to bash them yet.

"Island in the Sun" sucks.

Hmph. Island in the Sun is the only song I really like on that whole album.

Anybody else find Pinkerton to be about a million times better?
