That title of the other topic, "Raiders: The Adaptation" made me think of this.

don't know if i 'loved it'... but i liked it... so i voted love it... it had a nice little story line... with a pretty good... life lesson

i think there was already a general Kauffman discussion in the 'Eternal Sunshine' thread

Anyway - I thought Adaptation was a bit weak compared to Eternal Sunshine and John Malkovich.

For some reason, I found it hard to appreciate it as a movie in itself, removed from comparisons with other Kauffman shows. All the time I watched it - I just kept thinking - this is like Being John Malkovich, but Malkovich was better.

Maybe if I'd seen Adaptation first - the reverse would have happened?

Personally I reverse Adaptation and ESotSM. Adaptation, though, what a wonderful film. I love considering the film's premise--it's about the writer writing what's being written, trying to adapt a book, and not wanting to do all these things (car crashes, dumb romances) because it's such a beautiful book but it's devoid of those, but the film indulges in them. It's a Godamn onion, man. Nom'd for Best Adapted Screenplay, yknow. I also love Arrested Development for the same reason, just that it's so multifaceted and excellent.
