Free Lyric Contests

Post by emilyrose »

Does anyone know of any free songwriting competitions for people who just want to submit lyrics?

Hey Emilyrose. Nice to see you back around here. Why don't you write lyrics for Songfighters? There's a lyric-mart thread where you can post lyrics and if a band likes them they can do them. Or you can ask a band around here if you can write some lyrics for them. I've had some great results from writing lyrics for my fellow songfighters.

You have to be a little bit careful of lyric-writing contests - sometimes, they're run by the song shark types. If you enter a lyric writing contest and get something back that says, 'we really liked your lyric, send us $49.95 to put it to music and promote it...' that's one of the scams they run. A LOT of people will get that same reply, mostly those whose lyrics fit to one of the tunes the songsharks have already put a few hundred other lyrics to, at $49.95 a pop...

But, yeah, you'd be quite welcome to write lyrics for songfighters, if that fits in with what you're trying to do...

I would definitely like to try my hand at setting some other people's lyrics to music.

Me too. I only charge $42.99 :)

No, really, I can't invest in the lyric much these days and would love to collaborate.
