Wednesday already. We've made it to the top. We're over the hump. The weekend is right around the corner. It's a nice down hill ride from here. A bj will make your whole day, but anal will make your hole weak. Ok, I'll stop now.

QOTD: Have you ever recorded a new song and heard something, some sound, some note, chord, etc, that wasn't there, so you add it to your song?

This happens to me all the time and it's really weird. I'll record the instruments and start listening to nail down the lyrics and I'll actually hear something that the song is asking for that isn't there, but I hear it in the same exact spot every time I listen. I do mean that I physically hear it, not just that it would be a nice touch in that spot, but actually hear it. And it's something that I'd never think of adding in a million years, nor anything that I'd even want to add. So rather than pissing off the music Gods, I go ahead and add it.

Maybe you can link us to one of your songs where this happened and let us know what it is.

I can make a list, but I won't. So my most recent example would be my NE3 song, The Blitz. I have a line that says, girl you shine, you move so fine. I kept hearing this sound in the mix that sounded like something shimmering, for lack of a better word. I didn't even have to experiment. I picked up my guitar and hit record and bam, my guitar knew just what to do. I just did a harmonic and bent the neck of my guitar back and forth for a little waviness. :P

Ouch! Cut that out!

I heard a keyboard thing in one of the Nur Ein songs but I didn't add it, as it was too late. Oh, it's too late alright!

Roll call: Work and then band practice. I just put in for Friday off from the day job. I'm gonna surprise the family, so don't tell 'em.

QotD: Funny you should mention. On my song The Blitz, I recorded three part harmony. I was toying with the idea of inserting a fourth part in the middle, but then I found that the part can be 'heard' in there already. It's strongest in the spots where I'm in tune most accurately, of course. But it was a pleasant surprise.

When we recorded "The Sound of Music" for Marcus Kellis's compilation, there was a sound that happened at 0:38. It was interference from my cell phone. I have heard it before, and usually take it out. In this case, however, it sounded just right, and gave me the idea to do the cymbal build at 0:45.

Hear it here

Yeah Jim, I love it when that happens.

There was also a sound at the very end crash of my Blitz song that is there that I didn't have to add, but thought of exaggerating it to hear it more. After the crash, all off the left over ambiance from the guitars and vocals, etc is fading out with the decaying cymbals and there is this outer space kind of sound, which fits the song nicely. Now, this could be another one of my sounds that isn't actually there situations, but I'm pretty sure everyone can hear it. If not, ......well, I'll have some splainin' to do.

Was it that sound that sounded like a gargley sound from "preditor" (the invisible creatures in the trees) right before the cymbal build?

By the way, I added my new songs on myspace and I Googled pictures to go with each. I came across a perfect picture for my Blitz song, but I have no idea of it's significants. I know it must be some famous pic because I've seen it before, but can't find any info about it.
Here is the picture >> Image
Anyone know where this picture came from?

Ah cool, thanks Spud. What the heck did you Google to find that, or did you already know? I remember that you were in the art biz and had a gallery. I found it while looking for something else and couldn't find it again, for the life of me.

I googled "Love the Bomb" on a hunch to start with. That led me to google "Bomb Hugger", where I hit pay dirt.

BTW, it's "significance".

And it's "its significance," not "it's significance." But, y'know, who's keeping score?

Can't think of any specific examples of what the QotD is asking about, although my way of recording tends to be to keep adding stuff until the song tells me it's ready. On "Empty Wednesday," there's a guitar lick right after the phrase "too goth to rock" that... once it was there, I knew it was absolutely what the song needed right there.

Finished up something for "How Beautiful She Is" today and also worked on a cover of a song by one of the guys I know from tuneflow.

Hoblit and I never did hook up during his visit, but that's cool. Heck, I went to a Luke Henley show one time and he didn't even know I had been there until I posted a photo I took of him...

qotd: I know exactly what you mean, it happens to me all the time. I find, however, that if I follow my instincts and put another part in which is what I'm hearing anyway, it overemphasizes it.. I guess what I mean is, if *I* can hear these ghost parts in a song, wouldn't everyone else, too? Hearing stuff in music that isn't physically there is cool and creepy all at once.

qotd: Yes. All the time. I usually follow that instinct, because it tends to make the song a lot better if I bring it in/up.

Oh, Arthur. Now I feel compelled to point out that you were talking to BMX, not to me.
