2008 June 12

Post by JonPorobil »

There's only a few things I need to do today. I need to e-mail one of my former professors about something, I need to hit the bank to transfer some money, I need to find a place that'll fix my glasses, and I need to post an entry in my new webcomics blog.

A propos of the latter...

QotD: Do you regularly read any blogs? Which ones, and why? And how did you find out about them?

I think that question's been asked a few times. My answer is still that I'm subscribed to something like 120 feeds, though I mostly just skim most of them, and a lot of them are webcomics.

Meanwhile, I'm not so sure you're off to such a good start here. xkcd? Sluggy Freelance? Seriously? Even if those weren't actually pretty crappy comics, they're also two of the most well-known on the Internet. I don't think you're really forging ahead into unknown territory, here.

Everything anyone has ever loved has its haters, I suppose. Since the blog just started this week, I'm starting off with the great ones everyone has heard of.

If you check back on Monday, there will be an article about a webcomic you've probably never heard of, and then on Wednesday, a review of one that just started up a few weeks ago. And then from there, various degrees of unknown territory.

Sorry, didn't mean to repeat a QotD. It's getting harder to search through the archive to check for redundancy.

Well, first you might want to peruse the archives of http://badwebcomics.blogspot.com/

Yeah, I've read large chunks of that blog. John Solomon is something of a troll in his own territory; his rhetoric sometimes makes me dizzy. I'll be writing about him at some point in the near future, too, don't worry. But suffice to say, I happen to disagree with him on most points, plus there's something really grating about a guy who writes nothing but scathing bile and, when pressed, refuses to tell you what kind of stuff he actually likes. So what if two of my "Required Reading" list are featured in his bad webcomic blog? Some of the points he uses to skewer Sluggy Freelance happen to be the very things I like about it.

Alright, I'm going to shut up about webcomics now. If you have anything more to say, PM me.

Well, all I'll say about Sluggy is that I read it for many many years until I realized I didn't actually enjoy it anymore.

I do like Schlock, though.
