"The Quesadilla Explosion" is awesome, and not just because they are named after a Chili's menu item, and also not just because State Shirt part of the band (or at least, it sounds like he's one of the singers):

Tunng, "Tale from Black" on "This is Tunng"Tonamel wrote:Tunng - Comments of the Inner Chorus
I found what I heard from their first album to be a little too precious in a "Hee! We're playing kitchen stuff as percussion!" kind of way (but without the charm of Psapp), but they've clearly learned a lot of restraint since then, because this release gets it exactly right.
I recently found this group (thanks, Pandora!). I love what they're going for. The first band I've heard in a while that I'm instantly learning something from. They're pretty careful with their instrumentation, though I haven't tried listening chronologically. Good catch, Tonamel.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
"Hourglass" by At The Drive-In. I've listened to In/Casino/Out many times but it's almost like I wasn't able to hear the song before today. Boards of Canada's remix of "Dead Dogs Two" by cLOUDDEAD is incredible I've just found out. Also, Red House Painters' "Strawberry Hill" is easily missed and a bit sprawling but hides much genius.
Mainly I've been listening to Bon Iver a lot though. I love his open tuning strummy goodness and his TV on the Radio sounding voice.
I Finally discovered Archers of Loaf too. They is cooooool, check out "Web In Front" and "Toast".

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Speaking of TV on the Radio, I went to a concert recently where they played (along with Ladytron and Thievery Corporation). It would have been an awesome show if the live sound wasn't awful. Anyway, I really enjoyed TotR but had not listened to them before. Their singer is pretty amusingly nutty. Can anyone recommend a good starting point for their musics?

"Province" was the one that hooked me in first. Try the Young Liars EP if you fancy hearing an a capella cover of Pixies' "Mr Greaves"

Fake It off of Brad Sucks new album. I like it. A nice mix of pop and grind.

Sweet to hear that Billy! I've been working with Brad for the last many months on the mixes and I have to say, the whole album is pretty awesome. It sure helps to like the music your working on.

Awesome, Hip, I didn't know that. I have to say, his new album is much better than his first one. I liked Bad Attraction, but he kind of lost me on most of the other songs. But the new stuff rocks.thehipcola wrote:Sweet to hear that Billy! I've been working with Brad for the last many months on the mixes and I have to say, the whole album is pretty awesome. I sent in B/U vox for his Out of It tune, but forgot to send it a capella.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Razorblade Suitcase, Bush- back in the day, I liked a few songs by these guys, but never really paid close attention. I think pretty much everyone else I knew was the same way. I found this CD for 2 bucks at the thrift store about 3 months ago, and finally put it on my Zen and listened to it at work. "Distant Voices" is IMO the best song on the disc, but they're all pretty good. Occasional flashes of pure brilliance, actually. Yeah yeah, the British Nirvana, whatever. They say they were trying to be the Pixies. Anyway, I'm digging this.

I've been listening to When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold by Atmosphere pretty much nonstop for a few weeks now. Just a great album.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Holey poo. A friend just turned me on to Neil Young's Trans album. It's tough to find, but well worth it. Most of his vocals are entirely vocoded. It's a strange step out for him, and apparently the record label tried to sue him for such "unrepresentative" music.
Irwin: I'd sell my soul to jesus to program drums like signboy.

Hey all, it's been a long time, but I hope to come back soon with a collab with Fred again.
I'm loving Andrew Bird lately. Has anyone ever heard of him?
Also, how great is Melvin and i.p. lately?
