[EmbersOfAutumn]

Hola, SongFighters.

This post is coming to you from the INTENSELY overdrenched state of Florida right now. Our Credit Union was closed Thursday and Friday because of the Tropical Storm, and it rained non-stop from Wednesday night until like yesterday morning. Needless to say, I have a lot of yard work to do today when I get home from work.

Work's a horrible, evil, should-be-dragged-in-the-street-and-shot bitch today. I'm on thin ice with management, because I'm through of putting up with their exploitation. I haven't gotten a raise outside of my annual 'twenty-five cents' in two years, though I've taken up over 20 new projects, many of them on-going. Work called me 4 times this weekend, even though I was supposed to be off, to do things like troubleshoot a network printer, send ONE FILE to a company, and reset someone's freaking password!!

Anyways, let's... let's take the QotD on a different note, because my last one was ranting about stupid stuff like this...

QotD: When's the last time you were pleasantly surprised with how good something you saw or played (movie, show, game) turned out?

My wife and I bought a bunch of RPGs for the PS2 that neither of us really had heard of--they were just cheap because they were used. One of the games, Grandia III, is turning out to be very good for an RPG. Growing up playing the very-well-made Final Fantasy series, I've yet to find many RPGs that have actually kept my attention, but this one is doing it quite nicely. It's a bit more light-hearted than any FF, but the battle system, graphics, and music are all amazing, and the Characterization and Dialogue are well done, also. Because of being at home for 4 straight days (minus being called in to work), I went through Dirge of Cerberus (another awesome game) and got 10 hours into Grandia.

For me it would have to be the vidgya game Rock Band. I don't like games, they annoy me and I always feel like I should be doing something else that's more important. BUT, I played Rock Band with the Fam and I must say, it is a blast. I still feel like I should be doing something else more important, but I enjoy spending time with my Family. We all get busy with our personal lives and work, etc, so this has been something that brings us together.

I basically have to go get a job today.

The produce gig is not paying the bills. Hourly rate is tied for the least I've ever made (the only other time I've made that little was back in 2003, working part time while in high school, back when minimum wage was lower), and I haven't even been scheduled for one week of full time so far, despite numerous requests.

However, this might be the easiest job ever. The 10% (too low) discount at the store is rather useful to me. And I want to maintain a good relationship with the produce manager, because the store may be my best outlet to sell my goods. Quitting too early, even if one attempts to do so on good terms, is, in many instances, an automatic bridge-burner.

So I'm looking at getting another job as an addition to and not a replacement for the current one.

QOTD: Well, the opposite has happened with this job. I was hoping for something that would pay my rent, utilities, car payment, and car insurance. Never mind fuel for my car, or food for my belly. This has utterly failed to provide for even fixed expenses I have no manner of curbing my usage of. I'm actively losing money with each passing month. And I have none to speak of as it is. At least I have a credit card so I can still eat? Yum...12-18% interest on dinner...

Be really careful with that, it's a slippery slope. I just had to bail out my son because he was paying about $500 a month and none of it was going towards the principle. It was almost all fees and interest.

Do you have checked-in luggage?

If you do - relax! Go to the bar and put your feet up. They'll send someone to get you when they want to take off. They wont go without you.

There is nothing so cool as being the last dude on the plane, stinking of beer - 10 minutes after everyone else is seated - after all those "...Mr Caravan Ray, go to the departure gate NOW... your plane is on the tarmac awaiting take-off..." announcements. Oh yeah...the ladies love that!
