interfaces under $100

Post by jeff robertson »

Are there any that are any good?

Requirements: plug electric guitars and mics directly into it. (no nothing with only line-in RCA inputs); compatibility with Reaper (although I'd hope it would be impossible to fail this one anyway).

Not required: any kind of built-in amp modeling, eq, or other effects. I prefer to do all that in Reaper.

The Tascam FireOne was briefly on blowout sale for $99, but now it's back to $149. Still, it packs a ton of features and quality into a small relatively cheap gizmo. You could keep a look out for deals on them.

The deal on the Fireone is still available from Sweetwater.

That is probably your best bet. If you don't need Phantom power there is the M-Audio Fast Track or the Line 6 Toneport.

I suppose I'd better double-check that the PC I use for recording has firewire...

Interestingly from checking the Reaper forums about this device, Sweetwater has had it at that price for several months. It's like those stores that are always "going out of business".

Hey, thanks for the suggestions. I've had the FireOne for about a week, and already used it on "Interesting Times".
