DRC: It's just another day in the Niviverse and there isn't a lot of interesting things. I feel like I need a bunch of new songs for my jukebox that rock. I figure I'll pick up the latest fight today. I see a lot of potential there. And later, I'm gonna do some more work on writing for my NPCA. The typing stuff I needed to do led to some nice rewrites.

Re: August 28, 2008
When my wife and I returned to graduate school after I had taken a year off to get married help her pursue permanent residency (she's from Hong Kong), we put up a sign in the school's lounge "HAVE BAGS WILL SLEEP", and got an offer from someone whose wife had not yet arrived in town. It gave us time to find a place of our own.

"X is the new Y" is the new "X is like Y on crack."
Conversely, "X is the new Y" is like "X is like Y on crack" on crack.
I hate all snowclones with a passion. I also hate lazy editors who go for shittily ridiculous puns in article titles.
Although "have bags will sleep" is fairly clever.

Bummer. SHITTILY is not a valid Scrabble play.fluffy wrote:I hate all snowclones with a passion. I also hate lazy editors who go for shittily ridiculous puns in article titles.
However, you can add a blank to SHITTILY and get HOSTILITY, THIRSTILY or TYPHLITIS.

Did you use a scrabble program to figure that out or did you do that in your head?

Heh. In my head. I wish.Niveous wrote:Did you use a scrabble program to figure that out or did you do that in your head?
I use a nifty little app called Zyzzyva. Staying somewhat on topic, it's the Saudi Arabia of Scrabble words.
And yes, ZYZZYVA is a valid Scrabble play. It's a type of weevil.

Awesome. I will have to download that. My love of Scrabble still knows no bounds.

QotD: I've found myself saying 'too much (x), not enough (y)', using it to break up a common two-word phrase. Usually to somewhat nonsensical results. A recent example:
Friend: What did you think of the yard sale?
Me: Pssh. Too much hoity, not enough toity.
Insert mumbo jumbo / harum scarum / higgledy piggledy as necessary.

When I went to Poland (1993), I remember reading an article in Rolling Stone in which the Russian (?) airline Aeroflot was described as "too much Flot and not enough Aero..."jimtyrrell wrote:QotD: I've found myself saying 'too much (x), not enough (y)', using it to break up a common two-word phrase.
