Anti-virus programs

Why is it that the worst-behaved programs I've ever had on any machine I've owned have been Norton's, McAfee, and AVG free? They are resource-hogging, shell over-integrating, and IMPOSSIBLE TO FUCKING UNINSTALL. Right up there with iTunes as far as shitty programs go.

I just spent an hour trying to get AVG free 8.0 off of my machine. The uninstall file obviously didn't work, it just kept crashing while trying to make backup files. OF WHAT? I'M DELETING YOU, NO BACKUP REQUIRED. So when that failed, I thought I'd just do the old-school method of deleting it by hand. Stupid me. Obviously half of the .dlls are in use or otherwise protected, and I can't end the processes in task manager.

I go into services.msc, and manage to get a few offending items off the list. Now, I am left with one remaining .dll in the AVG directory, and can't get it off. Even if I did, I still have the massive shell integration mess.

FUCK YOU AVG, I'D RATHER HAVE A VIRUS.

Adaware is getting more and more intrusive with each new release, I've noticed. I take it off the startup list in Ccleaner, and disable it in services.msc, but it's still there, taking 1,300k, all the fucking time.

Antivirus and spyware stuff is pointless nowadays. Use firefox+script blocker, don't be a retard when using the internet, and run Ccleaner often. And turn that stupid windows firewall off.

I went through the same crap a while ago and I feel your pain. I ended up douching my HD and installing a fresh copy of XP pro. But before I could do that, I needed to get to some files to save, but my computer had already gotten so corrupt, I couldn't even start windows. So I D/Ld a free copy of Linux Knopix 5.1 boot disc, followed their instruction of getting to everything on the HD, pluged in my external HD, moved everything I wanted to keep to the external HD, and BAM, it was love at first sight. Basically you're running your computer from a cd rom. So after I got everything I needed without that pesky windows getting in the way, I cleaned my HD to new, updated to the latest service pack, etc. NICE!

I use a program called "Mac OS X". I've been virus free for almost 9 years with it. It's pretty awesome. The only catch is that you have to buy the associated hardware in order for it to work.

Not to mention that nothing else in the world is compatible with it. I use that program too, when I don't feel like interacting with other people.
