Konichiwa Songfighers.
DRC: It's just another day in the Niviverse, filled with stories of giant roaches, Young Jeezy singalongs and other stuff and nonsense.
QotD: In a similiar vein to yesterday's question- Is there a Songfighter that you tried to get into their music but just couldn't?

My mind continues to resist the attraction of WreckdoM. I can see the originality and craftsmanship in many of their songs, but I still have yet to actually *like* something of theirs.

QOTD: let the name dropping begin!
i usually turn to SF for originality and creativeness,
so its hard for me to get into artist that try to mimic too closely stuff you can hear on the radio. its like:
whats the point? you know i can get a better quality of this by just turning on FM/XM ?
someone that doesn't fit this mold and still don't get would be MC ERIC.

Well, have you ever had a situation like Generic did, where there's a band that you've heard others rave about and have given them more than one try but find you don't like them? Or do bands only get one shot with you?erik wrote:If I don't like music, I don't try and get into it.

...to answer your question. When I was a boy growing up in Ohio, I had to overcome diversity. My mother raised me and my brothers and sisters to fight for what we believe in. So I decided that if I'm elected, I will pass a bill that all coke vending machine will have a minimum of 3 kinds of beer.drë wrote:so, how many SF'ers have you met ? and if you haven't met any, does that mean you dislike all ?Billy's Little Trip wrote:QOTD: I've never met a SF'er that I didn't like.

Re: September 24, 2008
Not exactly. I mean, I'm not going to listen to music that I don't like just because other people like it. There are lots of songs and bands that people really like that I don't like at all, but I'm like BLT, I don't really want to namedrop SF bands I hate.Niveous wrote:Well, have you ever had a situation like Generic did, where there's a band that you've heard others rave about and have given them more than one try but find you don't like them?
Naw, but I can tell pretty easily whether I like a song or not. If I'm already hating it like 5 seconds in, I can skip ahead and see if it gets any better, and if not, then I can just stop listening.Niveous wrote:Or do bands only get one shot with you?

Re: September 24, 2008
I can understand not wanting to namedrop an SF'er you don't like. I can't fault you for that. When I made of the question, my feeling was that bands are bands and if we can talk about mainstream bands in the way we did yesterday, why can't we talk about SF'ers that way. (Even with the overwhelming fear that I would be a name frequently on the lips of people answering the question.) If it goes against your sense of community, don't answer.

Yeah, but hot girls are hot girls, but there's a difference between saying "I'd like to do dirty, dirty things to Hayden Panettiere" and "I'd like to do dirty, dirty things to your sister, Erik". One's like "hahhaha, yeah" and the other one is like "whoa, why are you telling me that?" Talking about people who are never going to read what you wrote is one thing, and talking about people who are probably going to read what you wrote is another thing altogether.Niveous wrote:I can understand not wanting to namedrop an SF'er you don't like. One is kinda pedophile creepy while the other will make FBF kick your ass.erik wrote:Yeah, but hot girls are hot girls, but there's a difference between saying "I'd like to do dirty, dirty things to Hayden Panettiere" and "I'd like to do dirty, dirty things to your sister, Erik". Again, completely understandable. I just figured that one of the disciplines of SF is learning how to take criticism and this isn't even the worst kind of criticism, it's "I gave your music the old college try and it just wasn't my thing". But you are 100% right that there is a difference between talking about people who may never hear it and those who may.erik wrote:Talking about people who are never going to read what you wrote is one thing, and talking about people who are probably going to read what you wrote is another thing altogether.

Very good question. When I was coming up in the world, a wise man once told me, our past success will be overshadowed by our future success. There have been very, very, very many people who have made us the answer to this question in their reviews. It is most frequently phrased thus: "I don't get Octothorpe". I am only assuming that they tried.
If there are more of you out there lurking feel free to post away. Believe me, our feelings will not be hurt. One of the most respected reviewers on SongFight! has already said it.
