Maybe! Right now though the group is actually talking more of a Pink Floyd'd THEME and not actual covers. But thats definitely a possibility if we lean that route instead.

Of course, since this is kinda primarily focused as an homage to Rick Wright.. maybe my heart's not in the right place. I dunno.. but I'll check on this thread from time to time and see what's evolving. I've got a healthy degree of Pink Floyd appreciation, tho I'm sure it's not as comprehensive as Hoblit's.

You're heart would be in a similar place as Syd Barret passed some time ago as well. In my opinion, while the band itself isn't necessarily DEAD, their last official studio release was in 1994. (they still tour and put out live albums and compilations)

This would be a tribute album inspired by the recent passing of Rick Wright who was there from day 1. (Before that really)

Excuses: My right eye started swelling last Friday...I didn't think too much of it but was a little concerned. Saturday I recorded three drum & guitar tracks for The Funeral Dazies... as my eye swelled up a bit more then calmed down a little as well. Yesterday both of my eyes swelled up and I noticed a large swollen bump in the center of my forehead right above my eyes. There was also swelling underneath my eyes. It's just been getting worse and worse. Today, instead of going to work I went to a walk-in clinic where I pretty much spent three hours of waiting around. I interacted with staff for a total of 15 of those minutes. Got a prescription that I'm going pick up here in an hour or so. I'm feeling better but I'm a little hazy because of the sinus swelling.

Thats why I haven't been around to tackle this project. However, I'm still up for it if ya'll are.

I think (and from Spud's suggestions) we'd be best if we took the mid to late 70's Pink Floyd approach covering the sounds that made them most popular. Dark Side of the Moon to The Wall.

We should probably break it up and rely on strengths rather than individuals. I'm certain there are people here who could do a complete track on their own, and I endorse that as well, but I feel that there are probably going to be things that will best be up for collaboration.

I think we could do a 7 song tribute album (more songs if we want, I just don't want to tax the project)

Lead guitarists? Drummers? smooth synth guys? Focus on your strengths and lets get to collaborating.

I could mix it all down for continuity and we might have a sweet release.

Volunteers, and people who are in... speak up.

We'll lay off any time tables for now. Lets see who's in and who wants to do what, from there we can evaluate any competitive aspect.

I would be interested in us opening it up to include the earlier period than Dark side, Atom heart Mother and Meddle I think are also quintessential and blend well into the dark side era.

BTW - my "Shelton with sunspots" was inspired by the Syd BArrett era and both "Outside Paradise" and "Ten Lies" were inspired by final cut and post-floyd waters.

Any way - I'm in - is there a delegator or do I just start something?

We can back the line up to include Meddle and Atom Heart Mother but I think those albums had their own continuity and totally separate sounds. I think what our goal here is to produce an album within a certain era of sound. We breach too far from that we will have an awkward album that won't flow within itself.

I think DSotM - TW is that Pink Floyd sound that everybody recognizes and was their fully developed and well produced sound. I LOVE EARLIER STUFF... do NOT get me wrong. I had Piper at the Gates of Dawn in my car for a couple of weeks less than a month ago. I love the soundtrack More, Obscured By Clouds is awesome. I'm just talking thinking (along with Spud) that we should corner a sound for the continuity of a larger piece.

7 songs I think would be good, especially if they are all about 4 minutes (maybe longer) each. The 8th and 9th songs are not completely out of the question although I do like the suggested competition aspect tie-in of The Final cut. As in, that's the name of one of their albums. (I think its actually something like The Final Cut, The requiem of the post war dream performed by Pink Floyd) So we might keep that in mind.

I say anybody who wants to start something, do so. Think of what you're doing as a scratch track even if it doesn't end up being that. Ideas are a good start here. I do like the idea of it being most collaberation efforts although I wouldn't want to tie anyone's hands at the same time.

I like the idea of spud doing keyboard work and some synth work. Heuristics can probably come up with some bubbly Dark Side of the Moon type synth stuff as well. Sound effects would also be very welcome.

Any drummers? I can drum a little... I'm no Nick Mason but I might be able to put SOMETHING down in his style. (If anything, ever since I've picked up the drums I have been playing HIS standard fills)

Lead guitarists in the Gilmour style will be needed. I can play his rhythm styles and even emulate his effects (I even have a twelve string acoustic) but we are going to need someone who can belt out Comfortably Numb solos...ok, maybe NOT that good, but you get the idea.

I'll start kicking around some music and throw a scratch track up here. Ya'll can do the same thing or upload it and message me...however ya want. I think the end game though will be tracks mixed down in my studio. But the start game is wide open right now. Just don't bite off more than you can chew, work within your strengths because somebody else can pick right up where you leave off!

Heh, I don't think you killed it, but I do have a lot of projects already... I was hoping to delay on this one for a little while. Since we have that other sidefight going. I think the style album is a challenging idea, but it's a good one, so let's keep trying?

I'm pretty swamped too, with workin' and movin' and in-laws in town, but I am still interested in either the cover idea or the inspired-by idea. It's just kinda on the backburner. If we're doing the dsom->wall thing, I'd prolly be most inclined towards Animals. As far as collaborations go, I dunno what y'all's estimation of my "strengths" would be, or if anyone would even want me on board.. but I can play the guitar fairly well, and I like to think I sing kinda OK. My recording setup is pretty crappy right now, tho that might improve in the near future if things work out. So, yeah.. I guess I got nuthin' substantial to say.. just checking in. I'll try'n contribute what I can, when I can, even if it ends up being a badly recorded me-and-my-friend piece a few months down the road. Good luck with any Floydian endeavors y'all might be undertaking!
