Sound off now. It's 5 am somewhere.

I'll have a pretty normal day today. I guess I'l spend the evening wishing a new title was posted since I didn't get a song in this week.

QOTD: okay - so I wanted to get today started to ask this, and perhaps I've missed this conversation elsewhere. Now that we can vote for more than one song, how do you decide which songs deserve your vote? What is your criteria/system? DO you have one? if not, how do you decide?

QOTD: That's easy. I feel every submission deserves a vote!

I just vote for all the ones I like, except for mine. If the day ever came that I thought mine was actually the best (quit snickering!) then I'd vote for it in a heartbeat. A leftover from the one vote system. I reckon.

Well, sad to say, I haven't actually had a chance to listen and vote since the multiple votes system came in, but...

When I do do reviews / voting, I wind up with a set of songs that are keepers - songs I would want to have come up on my MP3 player. Usually somewhere between three and six songs per fight. So that's who I'd be voting for. That probably does place a bit more emphasis on both music style and recording / performance than some people would want, but that would be my criteria...

DRC: we're moving across the street into an actual house, back yard and everything, on the 10th. I am stoked, but not as stoked as the missus + kid. Walking all our stuff across the street will be a pretty cool experience. Right now the plan is to make some kinda drinking game out of it and get all our friends to do (most of) the work. I need a haircut.

QOTD: I vote for all the songs I like, with a few exceptions on a case-to-case basis. F'rinstance, I didn't vote for an instrumental I liked because it didn't seem to fit the title. I might not vote for a song I liked, if the production was poorly executed enough, but it'd have to be pretty bad. I like the new voting system.

I'm a little scared that I agree with Rone. If it's good enough that I wanna keep the song, it's good enough to get my vote.

Speaking of songfights, it's October and I think I'm going to get a jump on stuff for my year end countdown, so I think I'm going to start listening to the fights of 2008 from the beginning today.

agreed, keeper (AKA "favorites") == vote.
these days, anyway. although occasionally a song that i mark "honorable mention" gets a vote too now.
it used to be that keeper meant eligible for a vote but now it's pretty much "gets a vote."

Thanks, Spud. That was lightning fast. :)

qotd: if I like it, it gets a vote. If I don't, it doesn't. There isn't a specific criteria, but I guess I'm biased towards somewhat mature songwriting. There's always a few badly-written songs that win me over by their fun factor, though.

Well, I would have voted for the first time under the not-so-new multi-vote system, but... I forgot to do it yesterday at work (wife had already voted for her faves from the house's IP addy), and my shift doesn't start until 11am PST.

If I had, I would've voted for all the songs I'd enjoyed, most of the songs I'd appreciated but didn't enjoy, and (this time at least) our own p++ entry. Teh suck ones (according to my own opinions) wouldn't have gotten a vote.

Which leads me to wonder... what if there were more than one checkbox per entry, so's a voter could give the more liked entry on his or her list of votees more votes than the others he or she voted for? Idle, random thought, I ain't bitching about the voting system that's in place now. Hell, anything that nets p++ more than one vote is super cool in my book. :D

today suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked but I think I finally proved that the problem in our system is not the thing that the engineer in Tokyo kept on insisting it was. of course that just means that it'll be all the more difficult to figure out what it actually IS.

qotd: I vote for the ones I'd like to listen to again. I keep every song fight ever since hard drive space is cheap.

Yes, except my backup also has everything tagged properly, unlike the original files which usually have ridiculously retarded tags.
