Finally, a question of the day that I can sink my teeth in. *budump bump, crash*

QOTD: First off, happy Thanksgiving everyone!
A deep fried turkey that I injected last night
A traditional oven baked turkey that has been soaking in a herb brine over night
A honey baked ham
Giblet sausage cornbread stuffing
French's green bean casserole
My famous praline sweet potatoes bake with marshmallow top
Garlic mashed potatoes and turkey gravy
Corn (fresh picked can from the grocery store shelf)
Baked macaroni and cheese
Buttermilk biscuits
My famous cranberry orange relish, made yesterday (Orange jello made with orange juice and cranberry cocktail, a can of whole cranberries, chopped apples, walnuts, celery and a can of mandarin oranges)
Banana nut bread, made yesterday
My famous peach cheesecake, made yesterday
Bourbon pecan pie, made yesterday (first time ever, thanks Niv)
Pumpkin, apple and banana cream pies
I think that's about it.

Oh, I'll be making appetizers and have basic munchies leading up to dinner which at 3:00. A favorite here is bacon wrapped water chestnuts in bbq sauce, baked artichoke dip I bake in a round loaf of bread and of course old school chex party mix made with real butter and Worcestershire, but I like to also add cashews and pecans with the peanuts.

The best part is that I've already made everything. Everything that has to bake is prepped and ready to go in the oven, desserts are ready to eat and the fried turkey goes in the hot peanut oil an hour before we eat. It's great, because I'm usually pretty drunk by then and there is a 50/50 chance of a fire or me seriously injuring myself and others. good times!

That is an amazing menu.

I dunno what's on my plate today, yet. I know my folks are intent on having some indian food, but also mom is going to make a turkey breast and...? I kind of wish we were with Heahter's family for T-gib this year. All the Anderson/Thomson holiday foodfests are pretty amazing & wine soaked. It's not that we won't have a good time at my folk's, but the H-Boz Fam Jams are pretty big affairs, w/ all kinds of cookies and snackin's and.... well, wine!

Hellooo, Jack!

It was a dude at work's last night last night. He brought in his laptop and I gave him a crash course in FL Studio. He wrote a pretty sweet song, but all in the piano roll on ONE pattern. I learn't him up a bit and told him to quiz me on gchat day or night for additional tips. I'm hoping he'll fight it up once his confidence is a little shored up.

Time to punch a baby!

Headed to my brother's house today. You remind me of him, BLT. I am sure his menu is equally ambitious. He has asked that no one bring appetizers unless they are actually arriving early, because he doesn't want anyone to spoil their appetite. Nevertheless, I am bringing one of my favorite dishes:
Image
I am planning to slice the tops off of the three bell peppers, however, and put three different dips inside. This gets rid of the extra bowl which has no positive contribution to the overall aesthetic. Happy Thanksgiving, all.

qotd: we don't really celebrate Thanksgiving here (happy Thanksgiving to you folks, anyway!), so it's gonna be the usual, i.e. frozen pizza or something like that.

I'll probably just get the biggest frozen lasagna I can find. Hopefully later, after everyone's done with their family gatherings, I can mooch off someone's leftovers.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Like Phil said, we're going to his parent's house for turkey day (well, curry day, I guess). Since Phil's mom finally came to her senses and decided to make some turkey, stuffing, mash potatoes and gravy, I decided to make a few dishes too.

I baked one of my famous apple pies, made a green bean casserole and also some baked acorn squash with Dijon honey mustard saucey stuff. Well, the squash is baking now and I still have to put the green bean casserole in the oven, but it's almost done.

Should be somewhat fun, but I agree with Phil, I'd rather be celebrating with my family. But, they're in California and Washington state, so... no can do.

I hope everyone has a great day!

I made cranberry sauce and roasted green beans for a thanksgiving party that I am going to in a couple hours.

My cranberry sauce came out excellent. I am never content to just use the bag's basic recipe so I used the following ingredients:

- 3 bags of cranberries
- 2 cups of water
- 2 cups of cane sugar
- 1 cup of orange juice
- the zest of one orange, cut into strips and studded with cloves
- 2 whole cinnamon sticks, and some ground cinnamon
- a bunch of ground nutmeg
- a couple pinches of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract

My roasted green beans also came out excellent. I used the following:

- A pound and a half of fresh green beans
- A large shallot, minced
- A clove of garlic, minced
- Kosher salt
- Olive oil
- Freshly-ground black pepper
- Zest of one lemon, minced

I tossed the green beans in olive oil, sprinkled with the salt, added the zest, shallot, and garlic, tossed to combine, added the black pepper, then baked in a roasting pan at 425F for about 25 minutes (stirring after 15). Then I added some lemon juice and covered the roasting pan with tin foil and it is now sitting on my counter in that state. Next I will toast up some slivered almonds and add them on top.

EDIT: I hate my oven. Half of my almonds burned, although the other half were perfect. Fortunately I made twice as many as I needed, so I ended up with the right amount.

Ham, glazed with brown sugar and cloves, baked in bourbon, pineapple and bitter orange marmalade. Never tried this kind of thing before and it was absolutely great.
Green beans, sauteed after steaming with hazelnuts, ginger, garlic, lemon juice, and sesame oil. Next time will use much less nuts & stuff per beans.
Yams, mashed and re-baked with maple syrup, coconut milk, cardamom (less than the recipe says) and cinnamon.

Pumpkin pies, made last night using reliable recipe, something went wrong, they have a super-spicy aftertaste like too much cloves or maybe too much burned pepperoni from frozen pizzas lying in the bottom of the oven. Preparing all this was an unusual activity. My mouth is ulcerated from all the sugar. In real life I eat frozen pizzas and burritos most of the time.

Random fact: when I was driving in to work today a turkey flapped its way across the road above me. That is, a wild turkey, flying. It clipped some trees and staggered a bit on the other side, but it looked like something that could actually fly. I'm not sure it knew what day today was. Hope it was a good one!

If your pumpkin pie recipe has ginger, as most do, that could be your super-spicy issue. I've found that using dry powdered ginger can vary quite a bit from brand to brand. Also, the pumpkin puree that you bought could have been pre spiced pie ready and you double the spices.
