Thinking about buying a new mic?

Post by ken »

Hey folks,

Michael Joly over at Oktavamod.com is offering a special on upgrading cheap Large Diaphragm Condenser Mics. If you've ever looked at a mic on the Musician's Friend Deal of the day and wondered if it is any better than your cheap Chinese mic, this is the deal for you. $80 will take your mic from meh to pretty darn good for the less than the cost of a similarly blah microphone.

Check out the details here: http://www.oktavamodshop.com/product_in ... cts_id=113

I've got two mics from Oktavamod and can't say enough good things about Michael and his work.

I hope at least a few people will send their Studio Projects B1s in for this mod!

Be well,
Ken

From Oktavamod:

re: new Chinese FET mic mod - investing in this mod makes most sense when the mic in questions has a 6 micron / 34mm capsule.

I've never complied a comprehensive list but I'm trying to start this project now that I've got a somewhat generic mod. I do know that the CAD GLX3000 , Behringer B2, MXL V77, Studio Projects C1 have 34mm. Also pretty good are the 32mm capsules: mxl 2001, mxl 1006, nady 950, mxl V67, mxl V63, possibly Nady CM90, SCM1000, M audio Luna and Solaris, original Joe Meek JM47.

The 22mm Alctron capsules are the ones that give Chinese mics a bad name with the their bright top end. though my mod does allow the circuit to better handle the HF energy these capsule generate.
