Re: 20-21/12/2008
So that thing isn't 4 wheel drive? I've always had a pretty good understanding of mechanical physics. I've been off-roading for years and I've taken auto racing classes, but even the stuff I've learned seems to be a natural feel for me. Some of the most important training when racing cars is knowing how to crash, lol. Knowing how to handle a car when it goes into a spin, etc.Spud wrote:I have no idea how it drives. I can't afford $100K for a car. It belongs to my daughter's best friend's dad. His daughter has been snowed in here with us for the last three days, and he came to get her this morning.Billy's Little Trip wrote:How does that thing drive, Spud. I'm all for German engineering, but I've never driven a Benz SUV.
Funny thing is, it drives no better than the unit behind the wheel. He kept turning hard away from the embankment, which turned his front wheels into sleds, and causing the car to drift in that direction. I finally convinced him to straighten his wheels out and drive toward the edge, and then to turn only when he had some forward momentum and the wheels were rolling. That worked. Duh.
When we bought a Jeep Wrangler back in 1991 (for about $12K), we got free driving classes. I guess Mercedes is hard up.
@Ross. Yep, bad ass!

You look like Jim Tyrrell's bruva from anuva Muva. .

Yeah, it's a four-wheel drive. You underestimate the steepness and narrowness of my driveway and what's below it, as well as the type of snow we've got. Layers of snow, sleet, rain, snow, sleet, etc. Makes for some pretty slipper stuff. A nice crunchy layer of ice every few inches in section.
That thing not only has four-wheel drive, but you can divert all power to any wheel or combination of wheels, and lock them or not. Pretty snazzy. We ended up putting sheets of aluminum checkerplate under each wheel and backing it up some before going forward. Nice to have sheets of aluminum checkerplate laying around, huh? That stuff's got pretty good traction.

I think Ross looks like what I think Rob Halford looks like. But maybe not.
Also, it's amazing how quickly a meal of steamed cabbage, fresh fruit juice, and black coffee can pass through your system. Well, not really that amazing.

My wife thinks I look like the Ron Perlman character from Blade 2.
