Me is not an object in the sentence. "Was" is a linking verb, and it can't take an object. It takes a subject and a complement. A complement is either a noun or an adjective. Since "on the team" acts as an adjective, "I" must be the subject.fluffy wrote:"On the team was I" is understandable but damn if it isn't cumbersome (and I still don't buy that it's any more correct than "On the team was me," since the self-reference is, to me, an object in that sentence).
