I don't think I'll be making it this week.

I have some lyrics which I mostly hate. I have some software that I think I could really like, but I've not had enough time to play around with.

I may end up trying my hand at a holiday tune just to get some familiarity with things.

The holidays in general tend to get pretty busy. I'd have more time if I took more time off this year, but I've been working through most of the holidays.

This year has also been busier than usual, what with Baby Beany still being in the hospital, and potentially coming home any day now.

I don't think I'll make it either. Things were looking good, I had some rocking guitar and drums laid down, then it came time to do lyrics and vox...

Incidentally, if anyone is up for doing some last minute vocals, I can shoot you a mixdown as soon as I poop out a bridge.

So far I'm really loving my submission. I'm not really good at describing my own stuff, but I guess I'd say this song sort of sounds like dancey industrial rock with some hint of Beck. As I said before, after coping with a nasty stint for writer's block, this is a huge breath of fresh air.

Very much looking forward to hearing everyone's stuff!

At this point I fully expect to be in - I don't think it's much of a vote getter, but you gotta follow the title where it takes you, right? So at least I can say I made it in for the last fight of the year - or is this the first fight of 2009?

I sent my submission last night because I had to, there was no way I was spending 2 more days with that song. After a dozen different versions of the same song, I was getting caught up in making the ending of the latest version what I wanted and I did what seemed like the worst take yet and just called it a day. There's more about the song that I like than don't, so I'm fine with a vaguely botched ending that no one could've told was botched, since there are people who'd think the whole song was botched.

Think "How Beautiful She Is" but with added snow shovel scoops which are just brushing a piece of 1x4 with a horse brush. Also, different from "How Beautiful She Is" in that I took a get in and get out as quickly as possible approach to the latest version of this song, since in earlier versions I was indulging myself a little too much in the whole "okay, I like that take, lets re-do all that intentionally and add something here and here" and eventually I had an 8 and a half minute song with all these little concepts everywhere that I couldn't even sit through and I'm all about insane art pieces.

So, yeah, get in and get out, without doing anything too crazy, and what I submitted was a couple seconds over 2 minutes. Although I kind of miss the 45 second "scoop, shovel, scoop" chant.

I've got everything done, except that the bass and rhythm guitar need rerecording. And then there's the vocals. I got nothing, so I'm going to try getting really drunk. Hopefully I'll be done in time and in for the fight, but the song might have to be posted in the fdrink thread.

I'm sure there's room for improvement but so far "terrible" is definitely the wrong word.
Let's see if I change my opinion after the fight goes online. ;)

Actually I take that back. I sort of accidentally wrote and recorded a song in the past four hours because I couldn't sleep.

I still don't have an ending ready for my submission, and I'm almost inclined to fade out after the bridge. That feels like a shallow thing to do though.

If only I had a bass laying around. That would solve all of my problems.

Kind of funny you should mention it. I have 4 basses laying around, and I'm still doing a fade out after the bridge.Image

Ok, my mix is getting better.

BTW - rhetorical question - who's bright idea was it to have the song due at 10 am on new year's day? ;-)

hopefully well have a bunch of the best drunk entries ever.

Well I'm in. It's not well flushed out and a tad murky. But I had to break out the accordion at least -once- this year.

in with a quick acoustic number. i decided to demo all the songs i wrote this year, but never recorded, so i ended up with about an hour of new material, but no time left to multi-track this number, or even polish it up. happy new year.
