[Niveous]

I hate rain & snow. I'm not a fan of weather shifts in general. One would think someone named Niveous ("snow-like") would enjoy the snow and it's just not true. Between that and how hard the work has been putting together the SF200 this year, I am really feeling burnt out today.

Before just becoming Reist, he was Jolly Roger. Before becoming Niveous, I recorded some demos under the horribly emo-goth name of Orchids For Mary. Do you have any previous name incarnations?

QOTD - No, but there've been others since. Paco del Stinko was a name plucked out of my bum that was supposed to sound like someone thinking they were all important and stuff, but actually being a doofus. Part of that formula worked, it appears. I used to put the name as producer on liner notes for cds I'd make under Nubsy or Boy Genius.

Jon Eric is the first name I ever thought about recording with. If I ever try rapping again, I will most certainly not do so under the name MC Baccarat, which seems pretty stupid in retrospect.

I remixed my SF track this morning, and was half an hour late for work = not good. I have my own coffee maker on my desk and just brewed myself a pot of Dunkin Donuts French Vanilla = good. In addition to having zero Trader Joes, Colorado is completely devoid of Dunkin Donutses. This takes some getting used to since my hometown back in MA has about one Dunkin Donuts for every three citizens.

QotD: Why, Henrietta, of course. Meow meow "Pussycat" meow. Henrietta and the Hostage entries included my husband Scott on guitar & cello. Scott recorded everything using his old ADAT, and then uploaded it to his Mac for mixing. Well, the ADAT broke, I got busy playing bass for random alt-country bands, & Scott got busy with fingerstyle guitar lessons and playing tennis. We kinda disappeared from SF for a couple years. Recently, Scott challenged me to start submitting again. This time though, since it's just me on my own (well, plus drum loops when I can find a good one) recorded by me, I felt like Quimby should be kept a separate project. (I almost went with "Pitufina" which is spanish for Smurfette, but went with a different cartoon reference instead.)

I always think of the Mayor from the Simpson's when I see Quimby or Chief Quimby from Inspector Gadget. Neither of which are women, which doesn't seem to follow you're previous names. Also, when I see Henrietta, I think of Henrietta Hippo from the new zoo review.

I was in bands "The Mess", "Hot Thirsty Dogs" and "The Love Pumps", as well a duo that was variously called "Till The Cows Come Home" or "Orange Whips".

"Caravan Ray" was a last minute decision when I submitted my first SF entry. I have never been happy with it. I did settle on "Tex Beaumont & the Dirty Hearts" for a while - but there is another bloke called Tex Beaumont so I stopped using it.

I quite like "Give Our Regards To The Earth's Core" which I have used a few times. I may use it more in the future.

Yeah, Henrietta was a sweet southern bell as delicate as a flower, but when she got mad, she'd kick yo ass.

For all the years I've played, I haven't had many names. I've played as a fill in for several bands on drums, but always play guitar in mine.
To date:
LIVEEVIL - Only because we thought it made for a great logo with the E in evil backwards mating with the E in live, like a mirror image. Heavy metal, but more like trash metal because we sucked. Me on vocals and guitar, Billy on guitar, my brother on bass and several different drummers. People seemed to think we were original and fresh, no matter how hard we tried to sound like Sabbath.

Circle of Influence - This was the first band that had selected members from local bands to create a super group. Heavy metal/punk. We played the So Cal clubs from L.A. to San Diego. We were on our way to greatness with this band until the untimely death of my friend Billy. I quit music at this time with no plans of returning. The band kind of fell apart and went in different directions.

Billy's Little Trip - The bass player from COI, Edgar, inspired me to get back into music. So we started writing songs, put together a good solid play list, then recruited people he knew from L.A. Edgar has been a music promoter (rock en espanol) for years and knew a lot of people, so he knew who was good and looking for a band. After a few guitar players, we hooked up with Lindsy Gillis. Went through a number of drummers and found Gary duck. He responded to an ad on a bulletin board at a local music store. Then when it was time to meet, he lived one street away from me, lol. We became even more popular (well, as popular as local nobodys can be) than COI, mainly because of Edgar's connections. We made one Studio album and several demos. The band became victim of career and family needs. We had more important responsibilities that we couldn't ignore any longer. The end.

I haven't come up with anything I love for here, and I'd like to soon. I was hoping to have something clever before I signed up for FAWM. Slats is just the name I've been using on the interwebz since I first got a computer.

My first band when I was a kid was called Crystal Illusion, then I went thru names like The Jury (more a new wave thing), Leftist Pig, and Throw the Pope, amongst others.

I've been kicking around things like Aum Slaw and Warmpth, but nothing's grabbing me - and time's running out here on 1/28.

QotD: An endless succession of bad band names, with others and solo. Here are some of the worst.

My first, as a teenager: Good Soil. Yeah, it's a Christian reference.

A bit later on... Ecstatic Cling. Get it?! Like static cling, but really happy! Ugh, what was I thinking?

My solo work was going to be Absentee for awhile, but I found an aussie band with the name.

Sled for a Sparrow. I still like the image of a bird on a tiny sled, but it's a groaner of a band name. Similarly,

Bird With Pope Hat. I'm kind of fond of how random this one is, and it may have to be pulled out and dusted off for a really goofy songfight.

There were a few joke bands I had with my friends. One of them was Viva La Vagina. Another one was The New Cuddle Revolution, and an album that should be named 'Make Spoons Not Knives', which I used as a band name for my first songfight entry because I couldn't think of anything else. 'Trick Soup' was another supposed album title turned band name. I'm happier with Howl Down the Chimney than I've been with anything else, for the genre it is, and can see myself keeping it for a long time. I'm still casting around for band names I can use for my other genres.

QotD: Me and a friend had a group we called Glennwood (we did a song on here a few months ago under that name), prior to that, we kicked around the name 'Exit 333' based on the interstate exit we're off of. I've basically stuck with the project name I have now, though I have about 3 others for different genred music.

QotD: Years ago, I was in a band (well, a duo really) called No Money. I think of everything I've been involved in, that was the best name I've used. I was also in the short-lived acts Virtual Reality and Promethium. When I started doing solo projects, I settled on the pretentious moniker Observer 7. I stepped away from that for a while and sometime late last century, I decided it was time for a new name to record under and chose the equally pretentious Naked Philosophy. I thought about changing it again recently, but if the grandiloquent shoe fits...

I have been working on some sillier music lately (in the folk-tronic sub-genre), and in a fit of silliness decided to call that project The Tedward Nixon Experience. For the record, Tedward Nixon is the nickname my wife and I have bestowed upon our dog. So far, I've submitted to Songfight under both the Naked Philosophy and Tedward Nixon banners.
