Song Fight MN
according to maps.yahoo.com, the general vicinity of minneapolis/st. paul is about 900 miles (aka 13 hours-ish) away from me. in theory if i left here after work thursday evening i could make it there around noon, check into a hotel and crash for a few hours, and be ready to rock out by evening.
in theory, i say. i'll have to see how things look for me as we get closer to that time, but at this moment i am at minimum mildly intrigued by this.

That would be awesome. Why not fly and save the time? I will pick you up at the airport and even buy you a meal. heh. Friday is the practice and Saturday is the SF? You veteran SF'rs need to help me out with how you want to do this. I am all about flexability in this thing.

Cool - March 18th in ink on my Calendar. Now to find a band...
Other considerations:
1- Will there be a 'Live Songfight' ? When will the title be announced? Etc Etc
2- A 'practice' day would only be necessary if groups were showing up that had never played together before. I would be willing to sit-in with any band that wants to spontaneously form here. Let me know if you want to form a temporary band.
3- There are a lot of good accomodations in the area. We can help out anyone coming in from out of town with anything you need.

damn
Wouldn't you know it. The ONLY plans I already have for the entire year of 2005 are the weekend of the 18th. I'm still in, but if we could go a week earlier or later it would help me out a lotful.

plane tickets probably cost more than driving. but i'd have to do some research to verify that, it may work out to be about the same...Fried wrote:Why not fly and save the time?
anyway, like i said i can't officially throw my hat anywhere right now, but keep on planning and posting details and such, and i'll see what i can do...

I know we talked about this briefly in PM, but just to echo it here to other lurkers:Bolio wrote:Let me know if you want to form a temporary band.
A temporary band sounds fun, and I'm interested. Primarily a keyboardist (keyboard bass is fun too), might be able to do backing vocals, and am a guitar newbie (higher risk). If we do something (aside from the possible SongFight! challenge) I'd like to learn the song a few weeks in advance. I play by ear, can't sight-read very well (chords might work), never sang for an audience before, and haven't played with a band for years. The first SongFight! Live I'd be attending.
But if you still think there's a use for me, I'm game. Otherwise it's boy-and-keyboard, possibly featuring Professor Sequencer.
Help! Which reasonably-priced [hm]otels/etc do you recommend, preferably with Internet access, and close to the gig/practice location?Bolio wrote:There are a lot of good accomodations in the area. We can help out anyone coming in from out of town with anything you need.
Obviously I can do some research here.. I've already got a list, but if you know of lodging in a convenient location, that'd help immensely.
Any room blocks? Dunno if we have enough out-of-towners to warrant room-block discounts, but it doesn't hurt to ask
And then there's Greyhound, which ought to be cheaper, though longer and more torturing. Unless they've changed since I was a widdo Pwat.tviyh wrote:plane tickets probably cost more than driving. but i'd have to do some research to verify that, it may work out to be about the same...Fried wrote:Why not fly and save the time?
It's weird, I always hear about ways to get bonus airline mileage, but never had a use for it.. until now, when I don't even know where to look.
I can attest to that myself also. Bolio is the shizniz!jack shite wrote:i can personally vouch for the fact that bolio comes prepared. more prepared than the rest of those bloody hams....

ok so i was thinking this morning -- 900miles x2 = something like $300 in gas. add to that more than 24 hours of travel time, and it seems it would be stupid not to take a plane (i still haven't checked, but i can't imagine pittsburgh-minnesota round trip flights costing more than $200, especially if i start planning now)... so assuming i end up going, that will be the way to do it.
let me know when y'all settle firmly on a definite date and time, and i'll try to figure out what i can do about getting there.
furthermore: one of my NYE resolutions is to rearrange and rerecord all of my songs that i think are worth keeping, such that i'd actually have something worth sharing in a live venue (my goal is to have this ready by next summer's official SFL) but i think it's pretty obvious i wouldn't be prepared for this by march. but if anyone who's performing is seeking an additional musician (bass mostly, and keyboards to a lesser degree, and really really easy guitar parts to an even lesser degree. also additional vocals if desired) i'd be more than willing to pitch in.

That would be so cool if you could make it! And it will be so cool if I can make it. DIRK - what other dates around this time are available? Let's get started right away on plan B.tviyh wrote:...settle firmly on a definite date and time...

The dates are the first and third friday of every month. I thought the date was agreed. I need to reserve the dates with the bar owner. So if this is not the date, we need to selttle this before next friday. (When my band plays there next) so I can set it up with him.Bolio wrote:That would be so cool if you could make it! Okay, well I can't make it the 3rd Friday of March. I thought about it & I won't blow off my plans, even for this. If you could do the first Friday in March or April I would appreciate it. Otherwise, I understand....**sniff**

yeah that(april) will work for me. If anyone (as long as you are not some dumbass) needs a place to crash I have an extra room w/futon. Im in Minneapolis but it wouldnt be that far away. Then I could show you around this wonderful City and get you real drunk and then phil could take advantage of you. He'll do it.
