Re: Pre-Game Chatter
Actually, you did manage to get it wrong. (Sorry about that.) When the phrase inside the parenthesis is a complete sentence on its own, the period goes inside the parenthesis.

Send me some horn riffin' you have laying around and I'll arrange something. In fact, everyone send me a riff loop, I'll make a collage of abstract noise love. I shall name thee, green eleven.Steve Durand wrote:I'm out.

Re: Pre-Game Chatter
i'm in. number 70 for me. this song was written and recorded on the last day of fawm. i wrote 5 songs that day and made a video of this one for fawm. i just ripped the audio off of it, added an effect and submitted it here. i would really like to have recorded a full band version of this song, but i find that i'm too busy in my real life to put the time in.

Was the deadline expanded? I coulda sworn it used to be set at last friday.

Wow, I thought I might be beat up for my lyrics but not my spelling!
Ok, not only will I be challenged by great song titles as "Green Eleven" (yecch! (check spelling)) but I will endeavor to get an 'A' on my next post.
Thanks for the advice.

Re: Pre-Game Chatter
What the hell, Spud!? You avatar keeps changing, and I'm getting seriously creeped out.
On that note, I just recorded and mixed the whole thing in the last three hours. Normally I don't throw together a hack job like this, but I felt that the song was good, and I honestly haven't had any time to record it until now. And monday/wednesday I've got midterms, so I really had to cram for this one.
Either way, it's sent in. Hooray!
ps - It's pretty much compressed to hell now that I listen again, dammit.
EDIT: pps - it's also huge on bass and low on vox. hopefully I have time to remix it tomorrow morning.

Damn. I seriously can't decide whether it's worth it to try and make something or not...
Maybe you'll hear a very tongue-in-cheek rap song about weed, bitchez... and eleven.

Yay for convincing my friends to sing the "chorus" with me! Hopefully people will like this one.
Gimmie one good reason not to do it.

After one fight that was written but the recording didn't even meet my normally low standards, and then another that I didn't finish writing, I'm not only back but I am in! I gotta go find the words so I can type them up for ya!

Re: Pre-Game Chatter
I'll be in with the collaboration that nearly didn't happen. Todd McHatton endured track-erasing blue screen crashes, and persevered to bring mellotron flutes, guitar, vocal harmonies, and a chorus to my little slice of psychedlia.

I have hit a new low.
I think my throat is bleeding. I can faintly taste it.
Thanks everyone. It's been fun. This could be it. Forever.
P.S. I don't know what I'm talking about.

In.
Edit: So never read the pre-fight thread until I'm totally settled in, because I like being sort of creatively insulated. So I read it just now and DARN IT someone suggested a song concept essentially identical to mine - please trust that I came up with it separately on my own.
Thanks,
Ross

Re: Pre-Game Chatter
Hey, look, I just stole all my lyrics, and some of the music, too. Just letting you know ahead of time. I claim absolutely no originality. I hope my lyricists enjoy. Involuntary collaboration is the best kind, right? Now that I think about it, I guess it's kind of like SongRape! Awesome!

It's an emergency! Dial green-1-1!
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

I wasn't sure if I could do it, but I just started fleshing it out and it all came together. Hope everyone enjoys it.
BTW, for those of you who think creativity lies in the interpretation of the song phrase, I would say that is the exception not the rule. This goes along with deciding not to use the phrase in the lyrics. At first I agreed with this mentality, but after participating twice, I don't believe it is crucial. Besides, by the time you get half way into the tracking, a lot will have already changed. What I'm saying is that due to the time constraints a good solution is to just start tracking immediately. If you get hung up on the phrase, as I did with green eleven, you're just going to end up cramming all the production, and where will that get you?
On the other hand, when the song phrase is didactic, then you should probably go ahead and reinterpret. In this case though green eleven is pretty far out without any additional work.
