The power steering is shot, and it's going to cost almost $2000 to bring back to $1300 condition, so screw it. Two cars down in three months.

QOTD: 2000 Mitsubishi Gallant - runs great - no major maintenance required so far. Brakes a couple a times I guess.

QOTD: I have a few cars.
My daily driver is an 04 Chevy Silverado pickup - I love it - I use it to pull my boat, has a bumpin' stereo with 12" subs, etc - Never a lick of trouble - Still low miles, so I'll keep it for another year or two.
My wifes daily driver is an 06 Infinity G35 - Classy, yet sporty car - FUN FUN FUN to drive.
I also have a Vette and a Mustang. But they're my toys.

...and THAT's why nobody buys American anymore.

I'm not even looking at Ford or GM cars. It's severely limiting my choices, but I also think it says a lot about them that there's so many one- to three-year old Fords and GMs out there for sale already, and not so much of other makes.

American cars with V8 engines, like SUVs and pickup trucks, are great. But if you're going for economy, American cars are crap and can't touch Honda, Toyota and Nissan. I know a few people with the Kia. Seems to be a good car for the money.

2005 Honda Element. No issues, other than very non-Honda-like gas mileage. Before you laugh, it carries the humongous speakers and the drum set, as well as the keyboards, guitars, and everything else. There's a reason it's square. Stuff is square.

qotd: Right now I have, and begrudgingly drive (to keep its battery from dying), my sister's Prius, as she is out of the country for another month or so. On the plus side it means I can go to stores I don't normally go to. On the minus side it means I do go to stores I don't normally go to.

drc: Finished implementing an algorithm at work that I'd been putting off because it has a lot of fiddly weirdness to deal with. Also cleaned my apartment more because I am having a party on Friday night on account of Spud being here and the local SF crew not managing to get a venue for a show that night. So I figure we should at least hang the fuck out.

I decided several years ago:
I wear Akubra hats - no need to shop around
I wear Blundstone boots - no need to shop around
I drink South Island Sauvingnon Blanc (whatever brand is the cheapest) - no need to shop around, just look for the lowest numbered price tag.
If I have to drive - I drive Toyota cars (Corollas in the city, Landcruisers in the bush) - no need to shop around. Toyotas have BY FAR the best air-conditioning (trust me - I've driven them around the edge of the Simpson Desert), and later models come with MP3 players standard.

Why I now own a Subaru thing is beyond me. It just happened to be the best used car available the day I went shopping, and my wife wanted a 4wd so we could drive it in the snow. It is the world's most embarrassing car. It is a lovely shade of poo brown - with one of those wanky turbo things sticking out of the bonet. And really low to the ground with mag wheels. The sort of car that I imagine people like BLT would like to drive. When I get in it on the street - I like to try to give the impression to passers-by..."this isn't actually mine, I'm an undercover cop and I just confiscated it off a drug-dealer...."

Been thinking about another clown car lately (Scion xB) for the same reasons Spud gave for his Honda Element. With the added bonuses of slightly better mileage and a back-seat that's not a relic of Torquemada's Inquisition

You seem to have just the opposite problem. Here is a quote from a leading psychiatrist.

Ours is beyond ghey. It's pimped-up, boy-racer ghey.

But it is almost the same colour as Gene Hunt's car in "Life on Mars":

which is a small consolation.
