Song Fight MN

Set up live gigs with each other, announce gigs you're playing around the country or whatever, talk about how the show went, post links to recordings, etc.

i don't have any plans that i know of in march or april, so any of the dates mentioned should work for me. and furthermore, the offer of a free sleeping area would probably be very much appreciated...

April 1 sounds good to me. Hostess probably won't make it, but I shall represent.

This is tentative, but I think Hostess Mostess will be there.

I am tempted. I 've never been to minn. before... I'd have to look at flight costs, etc... I'm gonna consider it.. but no promises yet.... sounds like a good time though. Course, so does La, Boston and London!!

Alright my midwest brethren. I am setting up a songfight events page so that we can have a web page to point visitors to in press releases etc. that will give them information on upcoming events and sample music and just get an overall feel for the community.

If someone organizing the MN songfight has web/graphic skills then what I would like is the following: a poster and/or a web page.

In return I will create a link under: 'upcoming events' to that web page that will feature your event and on your web page there should be a link to your poster as well. As soon as the event is over it will be filed in the 'recent events' section where we will be able to link to pages with pictures, audio recordings of the event, written accounts, etc.

The idea is to create a portal for the live half of songfight that might be appealing in a way that draws more outsiders to our concerts.

Let me know who's interested...

Why yes it is. If so, do I need to bring a drum set?

You can use Dirk's Roland kit if it suits you. And it looks like you will share the Rhythm Section with TVIH! Kickass!

[04:31] <xplat> oh hey mr. voice, are you coming to MN? or still undecided?
[04:36] <tviyh> well as far as i knew i was still undecided, but then i went and volunteered to take part in the band thing bolio is assembling, so i guess maybe that would be sort of like committing myself to going?
[04:36] <xplat> oh, hey, cool. guess I missed that.
[04:36] <xplat> you're bass and sorta guitar guy, right?
[04:37] <tviyh> yeah pretty much bass and if it's super easy i can kinda fake a lil bit of guitar or keyboards sometimes
[04:38] <xplat> very cool
[04:38] <xplat> looking forward to it
[04:41] <tviyh> as with the austin thingy last summer, i don't intend to play anything of my own, but i *do* love the playing-live thing so i hope to be recruited by anybody who might be desperate enough to have a need for my services
[04:48] <tviyh> i likely ought to make some kind of public announcement that i will actually be in attendance, since apparently that will be the case. so that i can find out if anybody wants my help playing some stuff so i can figure out what exactly i'd be playing sometime in advance.
[04:48] <tviyh> but i'm kind of too tired to make such an announcement right now
[04:48] <xplat> hehe.. well, it's still January.. you've got some time
[04:49] <tviyh> ah, easy solution: i will copy this and paste it into a message...
[04:49] <xplat> reduce, recycle, reuse

oh and while i'm on the subject... (actually this is totally unrelated but who cares)

BOLIO - the other day i was talking to a friend about miscellaneous music-related stuff, and somehow the conversation took some sort of convoluted detour and she was saying some stuff about blue oyster cult, and saturday night live, and christopher walken, and etc etc etc, and all of a sudden your signature line which has confused me for months makes a heckuvalot more sense...

i had not the faintest clue what that cowbell stuff was about until my cousin, in an unrelated demonstration, showed me a video of that skit that he got from the internet. it was very funny. dunno where he got it, though.

I don't have an electronic kit anymore. I have a Ludwig kit with Zillgin master cymbals. You can use my Amps, PA and Drums. I never share microphones and I wouldn't count on using our guitars... You can use my pedal board and we have three wireless instrument hookups. I fired my lame ass guitarist and rehired Mike. (That info was just for you boilio)
I gig'd there on friday and the Owner said he will have drink and food specials for us. The April 2nd will work for him. We have the place, they have the booze and you all have the talent. I have done as much as I can for organizing, unless it is rides and places to hang out. We need someone to record it. I will have an independent party pick the SF Title two weeks before(One of the SF gods prolly). ANy and all help is appreciated. On a further note. Since they serve food until midnight, underage people are allowed to be there.(not drink of course). Use your own judgement. It is a bar, smokey and local drunks(and that is not including from this community) :)

Cool, I am very happy to hear there is a real drum set there. Thanks for setting everything up Fried. So, you have a PA but no microphones? Im confused, do we need to come up with microphones?
Also, is anyone good at making posters and websites and such? Im thinking Phil redmon has plenty of time to make this for us, dont ya Philly?

If you have mics, bring them. I have mics that my guys use but we don't share them. Sanitary issues. I have a cheap mic or two you guys could share, but it would be a good idea to bring your own. Just like instruments. I mean, is Bolio gonna let everyone use his sax? heh. ewwww. This is gonna be fun as hell!

This is who I have for comming. I will wait until monday to divide the time up. We need to know how many acts are going to perform to get a ball park figure on time. We can start as early as we want and go as late as 1:00 am.

Bolio
Redmon
Fried
Plat
Dylan
tviyh
Hostess Mostess

Questions:
1) What would be a good start time?
2) Is this format ok? please amend.
a) Each act gets an aloted time to perform SF classic hits.
b) Then we each perform the SF Title and have a cheer-off.
c) We save the end of the night for an all out jam of anyone and anything.
3) Where/when are out of town'rs going to practice? (I can ask about daytime access to the bar.)
4) Does anyone have a way of recording this?
5) Am I missing anything?
