The Ultimate 120

Post by GlennCase »

My love for lists and music continues.

Short story: A friend with a local radio show asked me to come up with a list of my favorite songs that we could count down on his radio show. I accepted the challenge, and I set up a page where you can hear the results.

Wow Glen, I just listened to the 110-101 show. Awesome! I have to get some work done now, so I'll listen to another one tonight. I love countdown radio programs with "good" music and interesting facts and banter, lol. Well done. I'm looking very forward to hearing this whole list.

That list looks like someone just put their mp3 collection on random play. Then again, I only think that because my list would probably only share 2 of the same artists, in Ani Difranco and Eels, and neither of those songs. I'm trying to think of songs I would put on there and it'd be pretty tough if A) they were in any specific order and B) there could only be 1 song per artist.

I haven't listened to any of the shows yet but if there's interesting facts and banter to go along with the songs, I will eventually.

SF is not getting enough love on that list. :(
And when you play FBF, the show doesn't get recorded. :( :(

It does look pretty random, but I suspect that if I tried making the same list it would appear pretty random, too. There are some great selections on there.

I was SO BUMMED that the recording failed to work out properly that week! I set up Adobe Audition to record the stream at home, and there wasn't enough hard drive space on the computer! I didn't get a single minute of the show before it ran out of room. Heartbreaking! You know, like Frankie not coming to Spokane this year... ;)

Bro Mac and Frankie have been represented, but there will be one more songfight appearance in the top 30. 3 out of 120 isn't a horrible track record when you consider that I'm picking my favorites out of any era, any genre, any artist that I've ever heard!

Coming up with the list was TOUGH, and it hasn't been concrete or foolproof. In fact, I've continued to make changes to the list between shows. I know that I love every song in the countdown, but I can just about guarantee that I overlooked a few.

Thank you for checking out the list! I've said this within the show a couple of times, but it's probably important to reiterate that I'm not calling these the 120 greatest songs ever written. These are just my personal favorites, and in some cases a song might have more meaning to me based on the things I associate them with. That's definitely going to be the case with the last songfight related choice.

A musical genius that we lost MUCH too soon! Didn't know about him until a few years ago when a friend introduced me to "The Shaming of the True". MIND BLOWINGLY GREAT! Glad to hear that Mr. Gilbert is a fave of yours too!

ROCK!
