Phantom power question

Post by JonPorobil »

I've got an audio interface with two XLR inputs. Phantom Power is available as a switch, but it's all or nothing, so it either feeds phantom power to both inputs or to neither. If I were to turn on the phantom power, then plug in a condenser mic into one input, and a dynamic mic into the other, would that harm the dynamic?

Not a problem - have done it myself after Ken told me it was okay.

Nope, not gonna hurt the mic. That is why they call it "phantom" power.

Some older dynamic mics (especially ribbon mics, and then perhaps even some of the newer and cheaper ones) don't like phantom power very much. Said ribbons mics get instakilled, others... well, I don't know. Anyway, generally you don't need to worry.

Oh, ha ha ha! Very funny! If you don't want to see my thing, then don't come to my opera.
