Re: Building a guitar.
I just need to route one more thing- the back cavity where the trem springs go. Plus drill control pots and output jack. I've been busy at work, and also very paranoid about routing stuff

Re: Building a guitar.
I have always wondered what you do with a router. Do you route (as Mark says), or do you rout? I cannot find a definitive answer.
Re: Building a guitar.
Here's what Merriam-Webster has to say on the subject:
(note: copy and paste, rather than clicking on the links, because the bracketed numbers should be part of the URLs)
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/rout[3]
Looks like to rout is "to gouge out or make a furrow in (as wood or metal)".
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/router
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/router[2]
Apparently, a router routs when it is something that cuts wood, but a router routes when it is part of an electronic data network.

Re: Building a guitar.
Learn something new every day. FWIW, when I was typing it, the word in my head sounded like 'rowt'.
This opens up a can of worms about the correct pronunciation of the network device router. (It's pronounced 'rooter', not 'rowter'.)

Re: Building a guitar.
Update: *Finally* got the routing done. The bridge spring channel turned out perfect (of course, it gets covered by a plate anyway), did a final rough sand by hand, and masked off the maple top, headstock top, and neck/binding. Sprayed a couple seal coats of black lacquer on the back, found a nice dark red toner for the front which I'll do tomorrow, along with clearcoat. Then it's all about the hand sanding and multiple coats of clear lacquer. Should be playing it by the weekend! Pictures when it's done, it's mostly just boring now.

Re: Building a guitar.
Done!
I recorded a quick little ditty on this thing too: First recording of my home made guitar.
The action is terrible on this thing. I need to spend a long time adjusting everything, and the frets are horrible

Re: Building a guitar.
Nice, Mark! Looks heavy and solid! So that's a darker stain, right. I thought the maple top would be lighter.

Re: Building a guitar.
Yeah, I intended on staining it dark and spraying a red toner over it before lacquering it, but got impatient. I might strip everything off and refinish it anyway, because the neck is too glossy. (not slippery enough)
