R.I.P. Michael Jackson?

Post by Hoblit »

TMZ is reporting that he has died of Cardiac Arrest

CNN is also reporting the report.

Drugs? Natural Causes? Side effects caused by years of surgery?

Meh, I'm not all that shaken by it. I AM however, curious about what Nancy Grace's take on this is going to be. (I'm going to venture a guess that they'll give her the night off and someone will sit in for her)

I just saw it on the news, so I'm pretty sure it's not a hoax. It's hard to guess, but my assumption is that it was in some way caused by the stress of his upcoming shows - either too much stress on his heart, or too many drugs taken to deal with the stress on his heart.

Damn, this is sad. :(

If this turns out to be a hoax...it'll have actually graduated to publicity stunt.

CNN has Los Angeles Coroner on the phone confirming that he is in fact deceased. 7:30pm.

For those of us who watched him grow up and remember the early J5 releases through Thriller...this is truly sad. He was a very odd creature and obviously had lots of problems. But he was an amazing artist and at times captured the groove of a generation.

I think we can rule out sunshine, moonlight and good times as the causes.

I blame it on the boogie.

(my friend Jay left me a voice mail:)

So Farah Fawcett dies and she ends up in heaven. God, impressed with all of the good she has done utilizing her Hollywood clout decides not to only let her in heaven but to also grant her a wish. God asks Farah if there is one thing he could do for her, what would it be.

Farah hems and haws for moment, thinks deeply and then says "Could you make the world safer for children?"

God immediately kills Michael Jackson.

Nah, it cant' be too soon. This joke has a shelf life as it references Farah's death. There is only a small window of opportunity here. People are going to forget that Michael Jackson died on the same day as Farah Fawcett and this joke will lose all of its humor.

Besides, I'm a little disturbed how his death is causing a complete turn-around in the way people are thinking of him. I can usually get past what an artist does in his personal life and still enjoy their art. However, in this case, I'm not that crazy about his music. Sure, I had Thriller and there is some merit to work outside of that album. I'm not even saying he is a bad artist, not even hinting at it. But for me, his legacy has only been launched by his music and dance. His legacy is everything else he is known for. (In my opinion of course.)

How quickly people are forgetting that 'they wouldn't leave their children' alone with Michael Jackson let alone let them sleep in the same bed as him. And that is documented, that children slept in his bed with him. Of course, that alone isn't the problem, no ONE thing is. I'm not even accusing him of anything, I'm simply pointing out what has been said. I could go on and on about this subject but I think I've made my point. (He was cleared of any charges ever waged for one reason or another)

How quickly we forget how he has mortgaged away his fortune in dispose of his lifestyle. (Including his share of the Beatles' recordings.)

How quickly we forget all of the the lifestyle that made him the freak he was known as while alive. Skin color changing, nightmarish plastic surgery, surrogate mothers, hanging babies over balconies, etc... Now, everyone seems to have forgotten all of that and are trying to remind me of how great he was because of Thriller and the Jackson 5. (And the fantastic dancing) I haven't forgotten the fairy wheel at 'Neverland Ranch' or any of the other things I'm expected to ignore in light of his passing.

Hey, I never hated Michael Jackson. I just watched everyone do so for so long that I'm not buying into the memory they are now trying to sell me.

-Hoblit

Post Script: I do however hate Nancy Grace but last night I could almost identify with her. She was tight lipped but unapologetic.

Have they forgotten?

Personally, I look at his passing as the passing of a really tragic figure. He had the ability to make great music but he got screwed up along the way.

I think that's the way a lot of people are portraying him as well. He had all this ability but you can't forget that he dangled babies, sleep with children, defaced himself, and lived his life as a manchild.

That said, Thriller was one hell of an album, and Glenn Case has a great version of "Human Nature". See, positives and negatives all wrapped into one.

Hoblit - I disagree. I believe strongly that he'll be remembered for his music, and his controversial life will be considered less notable as time goes on. Thriller's the best selling album of all time - that's a huge accomplishment, and is certainly a fact with much greater longevity than all the tabloid bullshit he dealt with.

This is also coming from someone who was a huge fan of MJ, and someone who defended him from countless friends who bought into the wacko jacko fad. So I can't really understand where you're coming from.

Niv - I agree, he was a tragic figure, and this is a sad way for it to all end (without a chance for a comeback).

Apparently the poor bloke has a history health problems. He had a series of strokes a few years ago...although all the charges were dropped after he paid off the little boys he stroked.

His face will be melted down into toys that are safe for children to play with

Sorry, I don't understand this "too soon" crap. The fact that he just died doesn't make him any less ridiculous. As far as his musical legacy goes, yes he was certainly a great performer and will remain an iconic figure of the time, and he probably changed the face of the music business, and the development of the video as a marketing tool. His actual music never really impressed me as being anything very special though, IMHO. And he was a dead set nutbag.

I agree with this quoted line above as true.

I just think that its extremely hypocritical of the general population to do so.

While *YOU* might not have been one of those people, I see the news media doing a complete turn around spin on this. Because THEY were the ones poking all of his controversial stories with a stick. I see social circles doing the same thing.

All of a sudden Wacko Jacko is a celebrated hero of entertainment in death instead of the celebrated freak show he was while alive.

(To ME, ((and Reist respectfully disagrees)) he was more notable as the controversial and celebrated freak show.)

ha, that actually made me laugh out loud. and i feel bad for doing it.

makes you wonder what he was actually thinking when he wrote "i wanna love you...pretty young thing..."

still, he reached and effected people like probably only elvis and the beatles could do. and i don't think there's ever been or will ever be a bigger international pop music artist. but he seemed trapped by his fame.

Aaaaaaaghhhh

Channel 4 NZ has been playing MJ filmclips non-stop ever since the silly prick carked it. We don't have a big choice down here, and NZ4 is usually the only station worth watching. and after watching some of it - let's face it: Billie Jean - yeah, great song. Beat it - yeah - great song.........and......errrrrr.....Blame it on the Boogie - yeah, like that. A.B.C - Ok.........what else?!?!? Nothing. Not a sausage.

Damn - I wish that stupid, kiddie-fiddling little weirdo was immortal - then at least I wouldn't have to put up with a weekend with no television. DAMN YOU TO HELL MICHAEL JACKSON - YOU AND YOUR MEDIOCRE BACK-CATALOGUE!!!!!!!
