Here.

Gonna take the kids over to Disneyland for a little while this morning. Then probably come home and clean up around the house a little. With kids it seems like that job is never done. Bummed ot have woken up to find a break in the Wimbledon coverage.

QOTD: I don't recell if this is a repeat or not, but what sports do you enjoy watching on tv (or the tele). What sports to you hate to watch on tv?

Roll Call: Lots of life changes and whatnot in the last half-year, and I'm just now starting to have some stability again. I've got the 3rd and 4th off from the day job, and no shows booked, and a basement studio waiting to be fired up. Here's hoping.

QotD: I used to watch a lot of (American) football, but that has fallen off in the last couple years. I like listening to a baseball game on the radio now and then.

On Saturday, Allyson and I went to a poetry reading. The featured poet got into his head the idea to do a experimental exercise in which members of the audience turned in pieces of paper with three prompts. One was "Something you've been meaning to tell someone." One was "A dream you recently had." And the last was "A lyric from a song."

He then pulled the pages out and read lines from them randomly and anonymously. It was a bit surreal to hear him read aloud:

What we need is exactly what we have
What we have is exactly what we need

Go Pens, indeed.

I never ever miss a football game, manage to catch many hockey games (there are just too many to feasibly see them all, but I never miss playoff games), and can't bear to sit through a baseball game (even in person it's rather boring, but on tv it's simply awful) (although I try to keep up with the scores and standings in the newspaper on a daily basis).

There are no other sports.

DRC: 2nd of two days off from work. I played 10 1/2 hours straight of Hot Shots Golf Fore on my PS2 yesterday. I've played thru it before up to the point where I couldn't get any further. But my data was deleted at some point a couple years ago (probably to make room for more Fighter Maker 2 characters). I managed to get really far into the game in one day. Probably play a bit more today but not NEAR as much as the marathon I had yesterday. ^_^

QotD: I like Women's Tennis. And not just for the obvious reasons. It's just a more skillful game. It's not about how fast your serves are like it is in Men's. In fact the best Women's player I've seen is Martina Hingis and she had a terrible serve. =P

If Wrestling counts I've been watching that for 24 years. And right now there are no less than 5 weekly shows. 4 WWE and 1 TNA.
From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style. :D

I'd have agreed 5 years ago, but now women's tennis has turned into a power game and men's is getting more interesting. I think last year's Wimbledon's mens final was the best match ever. However, I am also into the obvious reasons behind women's tennis ;)

That's about as deep as my sporting debate skills go. I'm really pretty passive about it all.

Oh yeah, I also love an occasional giant slalom championship. Skiing and singles tennis...I'm not into big team sports.

I am disappointed that someone finally starts up a topic for the first time in a while and doesn't take advantage of the conmingling of '29' and '2009' in some way.

qotd: I am not interested in sports, and I don't watch much television. If it weren't for TiVo finding things I like I probably wouldn't watch anything at all. Not that there is anything wrong with being into sports or anything. It's just not my thing.

I love Rugby League in general and the Newcastle Knights in particular. I don’t get to watch much any more though. I haven’t been to a game for years. On my recent flight to the USA, there was an excellent 4-part documentary on the on-board entertainment on the 100 Years of Rugby League in Australia (the League started in Sydney in 1908). Fantastic show! 4 hours of old footage of Reg Gasnier, Clive Churchill, Zip-Zip Man and The Crow! And free drinks! I was in heaven.

I used to like Rugby Union a lot, especially as I played it for years – but I find it all a bit wanky nowdays. Especially living in NZ, where it takes on religious overtones. The World Cup every 4 years is about all I can take of that now.

And I love Test cricket. Tests matches are great because they go for 5 days, so you don’t actually need to watch much of it – you just keep up with how its going in the paper, then put the radio on if it starts getting exciting. And since a Test match is just one part of a Test series – the suspense and drama actually lasts the whole summer. I hate One Day cricket, it is very boring – but I like the idea of 20/20 Cricket, though I still have not seen a match of it yet.

I like soccer in small doses – because I don’t really understand it. And hockey can be good to watch too, but mainly because I used to play it (I refer of course to REAL hockey, played in a park with a ball)

Sheep dog trials are awesome too. But I’m not sure if that is actually sport.

In Canada, field hockey is a woman's sport. For real. No guys were allowed on the team at school.

Now, broomball, that's a real game. Good for people who can't skate.

They must be a bit soft I suppose. Can't play a game unless they get all wrapped up in padding and put their gay little helmets on.

...and it's not "field hockey", it's "hockey". As opposed to the other less internationally significant game, which is "ice hockey".

Have a biscuit.

(the only thing that pisses me off more than people calling hockey, "field hockey", is people calling biscuits, "cookies". "Bikky" is the only acceptable alternative)

being in the uk we don't see much hockey, not that I watch all that much sport anyway.
recently I have really been getting into UFC, i eagerly dismissed it for months assuming it was just not going to be that enjoyable, especially seeing as I'm not a massive fan of any other fighting sport, but god damned I can never see too many people get kicked in the head :D

Broomball is the official sport of Amazon.com. There's an annual company-wide summer tournament which a lot of people take WAY too seriously. Apparently Jeff Bezos was a pretty vicious player when he actually participated in it.
