Cakewalk keeps exporting my songs as completely silent track

I finally managed to get my interface up, only to find that when I export my finished songs they come out as three minutes of silence.

Earlier today I exported a song and managed to get it to play, but I realized it was too quiet. So I went back, kicked the volume up a little, and now whenever I try to export a song all I get is silence.

Help?

I'm using a Tascam US-1641 with Cakewalk Sonar 4.

I have an extremely "lite" version of Cakewalk, so I dunno if this relates in any way to your problem but...
I have found that before I "export" I need to select the tracks (individually or altogether) by clicking on them to highlight them (In the program I have, clicking a track once just selects it; double-clicking will highlight that entire track, and clicking/double-clicking again will highlight all of them.)

If this isn't helpful, talk to somebody more technically inclined.

I tried highlighting all of the tracks and then exporting it but all I got was silence again.

The weirdest thing is i had just successfully exported a song and when I went back I couldn't do it again.

Well here are the obvious things that I can think of.

1) Highlight all of the tracks that you want to export. It looks like you have already covered this.
2) Make sure that you haven't accidentally muted your master output bus or anything like this.
3) Check your audio settings to make sure that you have the driver for your tascam checked as the output driver.
4) Check your sample depth and bit rate to make sure that they are compatible with your tascam.
5) You're not doing anything different in terms of file type. e.g. .wmf vs .wav


I have also found that if I unplug my interface while SONAR is running. When I plug it back in it won't get recognized. I have to at least restart SONAR and maybe even reboot the computer.

fwiw, I had the same problem with nuendo/motu interface. I have to change the output bus from "motu audio" to "asio full duplex". I don't understand why, but maybe some mucking about with the output bus will fix your issues too.

Oh, thats a good one too. Make sure that your Master bus output is routed to your tascam.

Oh my gosh I finally figured it out. Thanks for all of the help guys.

All I had to do was unplug the Tascam before I exported. I have no idea why I didn't try that earlier, but hey.

That all sounds like crazy to me.

In Cubase you have to set the locator range in your project to tell it what part of the song to mix down.

I am surprised the physical output has anything to do with this, unless there is some kind of loop back going on where the computer is sending your audio out of the master bus and then recording it on a pair of inputs. Very odd. The export function should mix down to a stereo file.

Glad you found a solution to your problem. I would like to suggest that it may not be the best one and that you should continue to try and resolve the issue.
