I played in the Famous Speigeltent, Salon Perdu last night! That was pretty cool. As part of the Taranaki International Festival of the Arts
I will miss New Plymouth and all the wonderful little arty festivals it has. Because it is now officially official that we are heading back to Aus - should be there by about October. Going to live in Toowoomba.
Question of the Day: Do you have recycled sewage in your town water supply?

qotd: no, Americans are remarkably uptight about that sort of thing, even though ALL water is recycled.

So it appears, are Toowoombans (Toowoombonians? Toowoombanites?). The town we are moving to, Toowoomba held a plebiscite a few years ago to decide about the use of recycled sewage in their water supply, and the good townspeople decided - "No, no poo-water for us thank you very much". This is a town with the official nickname "The Garden City", that has had water restrictions in place since 2006 banning the watering of gardens. The Qld Govt. has since told them to jam their plebiscite - they are getting poo-water whether they like it or not.fluffy wrote: qotd: no, Americans are remarkably uptight about that sort of thing, even though ALL water is recycled.
Toowoomba's other claims to fame are being the home of the Australian Gospel Music Festival ("...the largest drug and alcohol free event in Australia"!?!) and the City Council's brave stand to retain the name of "The N*gger Brown Stand" in the local sportsground, because that name could'nt possibly be offensive to anyone.

I've been near Toowomba.. (Ipswich.) I might have been all the way to Toowomba, but I can't remember why I would have gone there. The whole area seems normal from the outside, but once you get there, there's something just a little odd about it, that I could never quite put my finger on..
I did have the world's best steak and eggs at a roadhouse somewhere outside of Ipswich though.. mmMmmm..

I can't think why you would have gone to Ipswich! You're not a KKK Grand Wizard or something are you? Or a bogan?*Mike Lamb wrote:I've been near Toowomba.. (Ipswich.) I might have been all the way to Toowomba, but I can't remember why I would have gone there. ..
Yes - you have been there, haven't you. And I think "inbreeding" is the word you are looking for.Mike Lamb wrote: The whole area seems normal from the outside, but once you get there, there's something just a little odd about it, that I could never quite put my finger on....
*Bogans
Bogans are the earliest known residents of Ipswich, their ancestors arrived here with promises of the most beautiful and intelligent people they had ever seen. After 6 generations of inbreeding, the bogans began to devolve into Homo Boganus (which translates to "man with beer and mullet"). The Bogans can be seen hanging around the ipswich city square eating at Mcdonalds smoking winnie blues and drinking vb. They are easily spooked by the presence of homosexuals and ethnic minorities and are often found in packs which migrate via the bus's and trains that litter the city. Bogans are also very superstitious, they will often cover their beers with their hands when not drinking it to prevent bad spirits from making their beer go flat or worse non-alcoholic

Apparently you actually get much better water in buildings that are tall enough to need a water tower, since the tower also acts as an excellent settling tank (which is probably why the water in the 3-story building I lived in there was full of particulate). This is perhaps the only useful thing I've learned from Dirty Jobs.

It's fun to knock NJ, but aside from the ports areas (and associated fuel processing plants), it's actually a very beautiful state.ujnhunter wrote:The Garden City? In the U.S. we have a Garden State but it's all sewage. haha, sorry jersey people... just kidding...
There's a Garden City on Long Island. I didn't like their water when I worked there.
