Complain about your schedule. Apparently people like that sort of thing.

Weekender: Friday Aug. 21 thru Sun. Aug. 23, 2009

Post by JonPorobil »

Payday today. Four hundred clams. For the first time in weeks, I had a lunch that wasn't just a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich (roast beef sandwich from Jimmy John's). They fixed (read: replaced) our air conditioner today. Things are looking up.

I'm looking forward to Beatles: Rock Band, which comes out two weeks from Wednesday. Ideally, I'd like to get my bills and rent paid off by then and have enough money to get it when it comes out (my wife and I are going halfsies on the special edition with all the instruments).

Question of the Weekend: What are you saving up for?

well, summer's almost over which means Santa Cruz becomes much more enjoyable. The maddening crush of day trippers coming from san jose and points east and south of here have died down, the students aren't back to UCSC for another few weeks, and those of us that have to pay out our ass to live here get to reap the benefits of it again.

qotd: early retirement. whenever i had some extra $ leftover from a paycheck, my first destination used to be Musician's Friend. Now it's etrade. if i'm gonna blow my money now, i want to at least blow it on something that has the potential to make me more money. i started my account back in February of this year, have contributed a bit each month, and have seen a 30% return on my portfolio, better than the S&P or the NASDAQ Composite. I'm not going to become a day trader or anything like that, but it's got the real life thrills of riding a rollercoaster/gambling, and my money isn't gathering dust in the corner at best or gone at worst. in fact, i made enough profit that I took some out and bought a new MacBook Pro. But even there, i was reluctant to take some profit and not reinvest it. :)

I'm not saving up for anything in particular except maybe paying off my condo. I make enough money that I don't have to really worry about affording the little things, and I don't care for the big things.

Hell, I'm saving money to pay the overdue bills.

Found this song in the Song o' the Day quest (which is just as incessant as the bills, as it turns out) that seems to fit for this thread, to my hungover morning brain. Brooklyn Funk Essentials, I Got Cash.

Language warning, yo.

Haha. Designer Bagels? Fuck you. I got cash!

QotD: Not really saving up for anything right now. Being single now, I make enough to pay my bills and buy things here and there if I need to. I used to want to save up for a MacBook or something... maybe one of those little MacMini's.

Call me crazy but I want better sounding old music and here's why.

"Pop archivists might be intrigued by this strange parallel between the Beatles and the Stones catalogue—it often seems as if every interesting thing The Rolling Stones ever did was directly preceded by something the Beatles had already accomplished, and it almost feels like the Stones completely stopped evolving once the Beatles broke up in 1970. But this, of course, is simply a coincidence. I mean, what kind of bozo would compare the Beatles to The Rolling Stones?"

Klosterman really got on his John Hodgman face for that review. Nice.
