UPDATE: Front cover is finished and up on the site right now. When the back cover and booklet are ready, I'll start distributing print copies (with a Songfighter discount) and submit the news for the front page.

He just let me know that the rest will be a bit late, but only because he's illustrating the whole booklet. Should be worth the wait.

I would hate to draw any attention away from jon's album (it is excellent), but I just finished a new tune for an upcoming album, and I'm pretty pumped to share it with the world. It's an instrumental, but I tried to keep it fresh by changing up the lead guitar throughout. Let me know what you think!

Yeah, there's bass. Now that you mention it though, I think you're right - it might be a little low in the mix. I'll work on that before the album's officially released.HeuristicsInc wrote:is there bass in it? not sure if it's my headphones or what, but i didn't hear any.
thanks for the feedback.

Awesome, Reïst! I especially love the juxtaposition of the very informally-staged video of you at the drums and the beautiful-sounding drums in the song, especially the snare drum. What's your drum recording setup?

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
Thanks, AGray. The crappy style video may end at Christmas though - I'm asking my parents for one of these guys, so hopefully quality will skyrocket soon. Here's my mic setup:AGray wrote:Awesome, Reïst! CAD KBM 412 (1) - kick
Shure SM57 (1) - snare
CAD ICM 417 (2) - overheads
CAD TSM 411 (3) - toms
Mind you, I do some pretty serious EQ to get this sounding decent. I crank the high end on the kick and toms, since the CADs tend to pick up nothing but mid and bass frequencies. The overhead mics are too close to the cymbals, so I compress the hell out of those tracks. Compression-wise, I pretty much leave the rest of the tracks alone. I used to use a cheap little APEX on my snare, but I got fed up with the quality so I picked up an SM57 at the beginning of the summer. I still have to do some minor EQing on that guy, but it picks up the snare punch in a way that the APEX never could.
ps - if you liked the juxtaposition between decent sound and a crappy recording space, you should see the other half of my recording room.

Yeah, all my guitar sounds come out of that Traynor. Mind you, I don't record bass from the little practice amp in the back - I do line out. That seems to be the way to go on a low(ish) budget.
Holy crap, this post turned into a beast. Hope it's helpful (in some way or another).

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
Wow, nice job Reist. I actually started improvising lyrics and belting it out as you played. "When I tried, looking down. My fears were insi-ee-ya-ide. When I looked, at them all..."
bla bla bla. Well, I'm sure you'll come up with something much better than this, but you sure had me going there for a minute.
This song rocks. I hope you come up with some cool lyrics and some rocking vocals.
Cheers and best of luck.

Re: hey listen to my new song (thread)
Thanks 2dogs. Sorry to disappoint, but this one's staying an instrumental. That's just how I've always envisioned it (I've had it written for about a year now, and I've been tweaking it to a point where I really enjoy it). Have no fear though, this and several vocal-centric tunes will be out within the next month or so on an EP.2dogs wrote:This song rocks. Gotta stick to the vision mate. I downloaded your album. You've done some nice work with those tunes. The mixing is very good and you take advantage of all your strong points. You've obviously learned a lot along the way. Keep living the dream man, keep living the dreamReïst wrote:[quote="this one's staying an instrumental. That's just how I've always envisioned it

Nice choice - it's the best one (in my opinion). But there are others.2dogs wrote:I didn't know there was more than one. I got the TOWN album.

Ah, you mean by clicking on the individual albums in the center image, not just anywhere. I didn't realize there was more than one clickable there. Might want to rethink that. Or at least make a note somewhere.

I've got a few free days in the next week, so I might give the front page a facelift.
