I finally finished the Therman EP -

Here's the zip file.

ps - I gave ummband a facelift based on your sage advice, Spud. It's a little more obvious where you want to click now, I think.

I was in a frenzying mood, so I pumped this out in a couple hours this evening. It's based on some thoughts I have about the situation in Haiti right now, and how drastically these people's lives have changed. Also, it's lame that the media is ripping into the survivors because they're looting. That pisses me off.
Oh, and you can download the song here.

Yeah, I've been having problems with that lately - getting a good mix between guitar and vox. Sometimes it's for artistic reasons for sure (like on the aaaayoooos - there are no discernable words, so the melody is all that matters to me there), but plenty of people have complained about my levels recently. mmm. I'll work on it, yo.

I recently talked to reve about this... and it's hard when you are the singer and to mix your own vocals (which i don't do...) but I told him I thought my vocals were too loud... and then I realized that maybe because it's ME, I can hear it better... and it makes sense... but people other than you, don't hear it as well. So mixing the vocals higher than what YOU think it should be... (maybe just slightly...) and be on the safe side might be better. I understand about the intentional "aahhhhs" and "oooohhhhs" being lower... but the main vocal should be higher.

that's what i did for my gom song. then i asked my wife, "are the vocals at a good level vs. the music?" and she said, "turn them up, if anything" and i thought, "whoa, i was wondering if they were too loud!"
so yeah. i think i agree.

I recorded a song the other day that my 8-month old son played. You can hear it here. I'm hoping to record some vocals from him next time, maybe we can do a SongFight! :)

I suppose I could post this here... this is a re-recording of one of my Nur Ein III songs "Sleepwalking". This is the Chthauhaus version (Ujn Hunter & R. Mosquito) and it's how the song should have always been.

Chthauhaus - Never Sleep Again (Sleepwalking)

"I woke up this morning
I had a vision in my head
I never want to sleep again

I was sleepwalking
I was sleepwalking
And the visions that I would see
Along the way never cease to terrify me
And I never want to sleep again

But I woke up this morning
Another vision in my head
I was just trying to find you
But I couldn't make out what they said
And I never want to sleep again
No, I never want to sleep again

I was sleepwalking
I was sleepwalking
And the visions that I would see
Along the way never cease to terrify me
And I never want to sleep
No, I never want to sleep again"

Hey ujn, is that supposed to be pronounced (somehow) like "chihuahuas"? The visuals (Cthulhlu Chihuahuas) are entertaining me to no end right now. Thanks! I needed that absurdity.

Haha! Yes that sounds good to me! Thanks for the mascot/logo idea... I'm totally going to try and design some Cthulhu Chihuahuas! ;)

So I'm helping out a punk band, Helen's Evil Twin, on rhythm guitar. We play on Thursday at the Zenith Bar, Islington, and here is a little number recorded at the practice yesterday - a little rough but seeing as it becomes obsolete after thursday's election in the UK, I thought people like to hear it.

Maggie and I pumped this tune out a few days ago, and (newly invigorated after being cut from nur ein) I got up the energy to finish it today. Have a listen!

Damn, I really like that one Andy Reisthol! You really need to keep working with Maggie. She's good for your image AND plays good.

But you need to learn some recording tricks to chill on the ear bleed factor in the higher frequencies. They KILL the warmth of the bottom and the drive of your hard rocking song. It needs to be rounded out better via EQ.

Do you ever use a multi band EQ on the master while mixing down? If not, try it to see if you can widen some of the other tones to round it out better. Try the G-multi plug-in. It's pretty awesome for doing that.

Mmmm. I always assumed that my screaming ear bleed problems were coming from the mids. Maybe I've been overcompensating in the high end.
Billy's Little Trip wrote:Do you ever use a multi band EQ on the master while mixing down?
Nope. But I'll give it a shot.

What do you mean by "round out"?
Billy's Little Trip wrote:Try the G-multi plug-in. It's pretty awesome for doing that.
Does it include the multi band EQ you mentioned?

By rounding out, I mean giving the other frequencies a chance, not just the high/mids.

And yes, G-multi is a multi band EQ and mild compression plug.
Download it and give it a try. It's free, so why not. http://www.gvst.co.uk/gmulti_screenshot.htm

Start with one of the pre sets and just tweak it to taste. Widen your highs and mids, leave the lows centered. Set the mix to around 75% so you get mostly the EQ'd sound through, but leaving about 25% of the original signal. It's a good starting point and will add a lot of life to to overall mix.

Hi guys, I haven't posted in a bit, but I just finished a new song. I figured it might be of interest since it's a lot different from the stuff I submitted to songfight.
