Re: The 7th Annual Gift of Music
I've been meaning to do reviews of all the songs, but I'm not getting to it so I figure I'd better at least do one:
glennny - When I realized that we'd randomly drawn your name to cover my song, I guessed that you might pick the Floyd since we'd previously discussed musical tastes. I'm glad you did! I like your version a lot - very much true to the original, but with your own stamp. Can you enumerate who's on this and what they played? One of my favorite things about this cover is the backing harmonies, and the orchestration is very good. Thanks, you made my day!

Re: The 7th Annual Gift of Music
Paco and Glen, you are both very welcome.
Glen - Tomski is the other guitarist in Carpetburn, he did all the guitars, vocals, shaker, tambourine and editing, I just added some extra percussion, vocals and the mixing.

on behalf of glennny (me)
The Berkeley Social Scene tackled "time" by Pink Floyd
for Bill
cast:
1986 simmons electronic drum fills- Ken Mahru
Real and really awesome sounding drums- Ken Mahru
Tick Tocking guitar - glennny
Rhodes- Lunkhead
other synths- Lunkhead
Bass- Martyr
Edgy Gilmore vocals- Martyr
Mellow Rick Wright vocals Low- Lunkhead
Mellow Rick Wright vocals high- glennny
harmony vocals- Lunkhead
one take- there's only 5 minutes left to track guitar licks and guitar solo- glennny
backing oooohs and ahhhhs- all 4 of us
We did a live take of glennny-guitar, lunkhead-rhodes, martyr-bass, and ken-drums.
Then we overdubbed the vocals, the electronic drums, the guitar tick tock, the synths, and the guitar licks/ solo
it was very fun to do, it was a great excercise for the band also. We worked very efficiently we had nothing at 9:30 pm and were virtually done at 12:30 am
the worst part was we wanted to do the reprise, and the great gig in the sky, the whole album really, but there wasn't any of that time stuff to do such.

It fills me with pleasure that it's at least a vague possibility that Roymond is my gifter.

Re: The 7th Annual Gift of Music
HOLY FLYING F#!%@!! If I had a hundred thumbs, they'd all be pointed up for Eddie Bangs. Freakin awesome! This stays in my work truck.
[edit] wtf happened? It was an incredible cover of Sledgehammer a minute ago, and now all I can find is the Jackson 5. I'm gonna go cry a little. Eddie, if you see this, can you send it to me? I love it.
[re-edit] holy shit, I'm dumb. I was on the wrong year the second time I went to the site. It's all good now, except I'm still a touch special

Balance Lost - didn't realize the songs were already posted! Just listened. Well done!! Very true to the the original while also adding your own flavor. Thanks a bunch. Sounds like you probably had fun doing it. I hope so!
Roymond, I'm sorry if my version isn't as good as what you might have hoped for. I did put a lot of work into getting to this point, but a full band would definitely have been better, so feel free to express your dislike. I could always send you my G&G version of "South Side". :\

Been working on this for most of the day and I am very close. A bit more tweaking and I should be in sometime tomorrow evening.

Great riffing there, yeah. It's like classical guitar done on an electric guitar with a cool jazz groove. Intense but relaxing. I should have had a snifter of brandy instead of a white Russian tonight.
I'm also very glad you didn't follow through on the whole lyrics thing. I wasn't serious about that suggestion. :)

WHAAAATTTTT NOWWWWWWW?!?!?!?!?!
Lucky I have all the files backed up on mah website for the purdy ladies.
http://www.johnnycashpoint.com/gom09/uk ... nbloom.mp3
Appears to be 6mb so should be OK - though can't guarentee this is the final mix without listening to it (and I don't have headphones on my werkkomputah at the moment)

I never had any intention of doing that. The less singing I have to do, the better.fluffy wrote:I'm also very glad you didn't follow through on the whole lyrics thing. I wasn't serious about that suggestion.
