Jewel of India

Post by AJOwens »

Come, my friend, set down your ale
I'll give you something better
For by the harbour on this day
The Crown hath nailed a letter.

They want for men both hard and true
And free from all indenture
To join a captain and his crew
Upon a brave adventure.

We'll sail northwest by Canada
To find the jewel of India.

My friend, let's seize upon this chance
We'll sail for king and empire
By ice as bright as diamond
And sea as blue as sapphire.

We'll sail northwest by Canada
To find the jewel of India.

There are riches there beyond compare
Gold and silk and spices
And you and I will have a share
And we will find fair prices.

Mind not for your wife and kin
They will be well looked after
And we'll return as wealthy men
To days of song and laughter.

We'll sail northwest by Canada
To find the jewel of India.

Jewel of India -- Stucco Lobster Breadbox

They call her the Jewel of India
There are several reasons why
She lived in East Bumble, Alaska
Before moving to Mumbai

She's married to a former cowhand
Who rounded up the hosses
And has song titles like "Ganesh Will Save Your Soul"
And "Foolish Games of Knots and Crosses."

Both experienced extreme poverty
Briefly living in their cars
Each also had a stint on the hit TV show
"Dancing With the Stars"

The Lillith Fair was the best venue
For their whiny, folky style
And both should seriously see a dentist
To repair their jacked-up smile.

You are my Jewel of India.
And by "India", of course I mean, "Indiana".

And by "Jewel", of course I mean, that singer from Alaska.
Who lived in a van, before she was famous.

(insert unrelated cover of "House of the Rising Sun")

And by "of" I do not mean to say that you're from Indiana.
And for that matter, I do not mean that you're from India.

i am an eternal memory of you
the sun and moon shed their tears for me
by the flowing rivers of janna
and deep within, the beloved i hold
the jewel of india

lapis, turquoise, crystal and jade
make me weep with beauty
chanting still echoes through my marble halls
and every lilly, daffodil
and yellow rose sings

red sandstone is the passage into
the everlasting
in the morning light i am pearly pink
the sun sinking low burns me ruby
in darkness, the moon paints me silver

a teardrop on the bright cheek of time
i rest within reflection
deep pools and gardens embrace me
and deep within, the beloved i hold
the jewel of india

Out of the darkest night
shines a light from afar
that leads me to her throne

over the treacherous ground
I cross the deadly abyss
No I will not be denied

Into the darkness
there's still a gleam of hope
shining from a massive peak on high
lies more treasure
than one could ever dream of
the Jewel of India still shines

from on the mountain top
I hear the dragon cry
No It will never keep me away.

for over a thousand miles
I've traveled this mercilus land
Now I've come to reap my reward.

As The storm rages on
all through the night
I fight to calm my trusty steed.
Still I press on
I must win this fight
the Jewel of India must be mine.
Anything worth doing is worth doing right.

JEWEL OF INDIA

She grew up in Bombay
Her family didn't have many things
But she got a sitar for her birthday
And she taught herself to play and sing.

She did a song on the Raj TV
Somebody saw her, and they were certain
She could sell a few CDs
If they put her on the cover in a short, short skirt

She was gonna be the Jewel of India
They were gonna make her the next big Bollywood star
But fame is awfully cruel in India
When you're over you're over,
And that's just the way things are.

Her first few songs were good enough
Happy little tunes about girly fun
But then she started that emo stuff
And it didn't appeal to anyone.

They sent her out on tour
As a solo artist, sitar and girl
But opening for the Cure
Was probably not the best double bill.

Everybody come and see the Jewel of India
This is the girl who'll be the next big Bollywood star
But fame is terribly cruel in India
When you're over, you're over
And that's just the way things are.

Now she calls Bangalore her home
And her husband works for the Microsoft
In a cubicle with a phone
Helping technophobes who've gotten lost.

And when she pulls out her old sitar
Her kids say, "momma, not that again!"
But she remembers when she was a star
And she thinks about what could have been.

She was gonna be the Jewel of India
Poised to become the next big Bollywood star
But fame is generally cruel in India
When you're over, you're over
And that's just the way things are.

Jewel Of India
(The legend of the Hope diamond)

By Steve Durand

Four hundred years ago
Is when it all began
A tale to astound and beguile

That's when the temple priests
Placed a curse upon the man
Who plucked the gem from the forehead of the idol

'Twas Jean Tavernier
Who stole the flawless stone
A diamond as blue as the sky

But little did he know
That what he'd come to own
Meant he was fated to die

His fortunes took a turn for the worse
When he succumbed to the jewel's pull
He became the first victim of the curse
Torn apart by wolves

Thought it's called the Hope
It's brought naught but despair
To those who do not heed the warning

Misfortune and death
To all who would possess
The jewel of India

King Louis the fourteenth
Next owned this paragon
His offspring all soon were dead

And then his distant heir
In the French revolt
Lost the diamond as well as his head

The jewel was sold to pay gambling debts
To covet it is a mistake
It's been bought and sold causing many regrets
Leaving ruin in it's wake

Though it's called the Hope
It's brought naught but despair
To those who do not heed the warning

Misfortune and death
To all who would possess
The jewel of India
