If I enter this fight, my lyrics will be six feet deep.
Get it??? DEEP. As in MEANINGFUL. But also a common reference to someone who is buried.

If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

Re: Caught Sleeping? Write a song!
I'm not going to be in. A shame -- I'd wanted to work in "dirty nappies."
On the other hand, I was planning a rap song, so you're all spared.
(edit) The idea was to riff on crude or disrespectful expressions, in the context of existential despair at the meaningless and squalour of existence:
So he said, like what about like beauty and music and art?
And I said, shut your cake-hole, bro, that ain't nothin but a brain fart.
I said, do the math, dude, life's a bum rap.
You go from dirty nappies to a dirt nap.

Okay I like my lyrics but the music I've come up with so far is just not cutting it. Consider them a donation, most likely. Burgle away.

Mine are equally burglable, but probably not as good - see the lyric mart.

Re: Caught Sleeping? Write a song!
I am gonna be putting in my first entry too. The topic is easy so I expect there will be a LOT of entries this time. My theme is soccer hooliganism and I will also make it a love song, so there! *heh*
I am gonna be riding the deadline mighty hard. I have been so busy I didn't get to start until yesterday and while I really want to do this justice I only have a few hours to do it so it is gonna be a matter of compromise. It has promise but I still need to get the guest vocalist and fix the patch cables which destroyed my first takes. *sigh*
Learning a lot of new stuff though. Like that my Laptop can not handle ripping the stream straight to mp3 without adding noise. Still have a day though so I have a lot of time to work out the technical problems. I just wish I could spend that time on the music rather than the studio though.

Re: Caught Sleeping? Write a song!
Oh, wow, did I pick a good time to come back.
So, after failing ignominiously at Nur Ein - the penance for which was a month in a burlap shirt and daily whippings with old, rusty guitar strings - I decided it was about time to dust off the ol' axes and get some rockin' done.
And, uh, I actually had a free afternoon.
*ahem*

Re: Caught Sleeping? Write a song!
I just submitted.
Recorded a song this week to commemorate my new recording sanctuary (i.e. place to record where i don't have to set up and tear down all the time). Included additions are a new computer desk, 24" monitor, and CAD-7 Premium Drum mics.
Extra bonus: I recorded "live" *cough cut and paste cough* drums this time (no EZ DRUMMER at least). Overall I'm pretty happy with the sound of my new drum mics... hard to guess i'm in an echo-y bedroom... but guess you'll have to take a listen to be the real judge of that. I've never recorded drums (or played drums live for that matter.. just tinker on my borrowed kit) and personally i'm pretty gosh darn proud of what i managed to come up with.
The lyrics for my song were influenced by the suicide of a coworker of mine who died not too long ago. A bit heavy, yes, but a good way to emote some questions and reflect on my own existence. Convenient songfight name.
See you in the reviews thread...

Re: Caught Sleeping? Write a song!
Ok got in my entry with 9 hours to spare . I had to cut some parts since I ran out of time to fix technical issues but I was able to get what I wanted in there and I am happy with how it turned out for 2 evenings work. I managed to give it elements of a lust song (not quite love song) as well as taking the crown for the most times the song theme can be worked into a tune
Don't try this at home kids. Hope people get a kick out of it. It was fun to do.
