Car CD player has a disc stuck in it

Post by JonPorobil »

This is a little off-topic, but it's the primary means by which I listen to Songfight, so...

The CD player in my car is broken. A disc is stuck in it. I press eject, and I hear a whirring, but nothing happens. It won't play the disc that's in there, either.

Are there any ways to deal with this that don't involve paying an arm and a leg to my local automotive audio technicians?

I have found that discs with printed sticker typemlabels getnstuck in mine. But if I push eject and get in there with some tweezers I can grab theirnedge and get them out.

Use a butter knife to slide in an move the cd back in position so it will eject ot you can slide it out. You will probably ruin the cd though. Don't worry about electrical shock, because it's only 12vdc.

If that doesn't work, take the cd player out of the dash and take it apart. And before you tell me you're not mechanically inclined, it's not that hard to do.

Assuming that it's a factory-installed deck, there should be a small hole under the loading slot (like I tried to explain on Facebook) If you take a paperclip or similar stiff wire and push it in the hole, the disc will eject. If it's not a factory jobbie, the emergency eject hole will be under the removable faceplate.

Did you even Google this, Jon? I mean, yeesh :)

Mark, I liked method number 3, lol.

Method 3
With the heel of your hand, slam it into the front of the CD player.

I thought you were joking. It is a factory-installed deck, but there's no such hole that I can see, but I haven't tried removing the front plate yet. Need to locate my seldom-used toolkit.

We had this same problem with our factory deck. When we took our car in for service, we asked them to take a look at it. They told us that it would cost hundreds to fix, but we haven't had the problem since. Apparently, having a certified technician look at it is all it takes...

This worked. Everything appears to be hunky dory.

And, as advertised, ruined my disc. Good thing it was home-burned.

Use a butter knife to slide in and move the tumor back in position so it will eject ot you can slide it out. You will probably ruin the butter knife though.
