This would suggest different
"U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Henry A. Wallace (later U.S. Vice President in Franklin D. Roosevelt's third term) used the term to describe the unrealistically inflated value of stocks on the New York Stock Exchange just before the crash of 1929 that signaled the onset of the Great Depression .. In his 1936 book ..." (ibid.)
I'm fairly sure it's been floating around (GB) English for a while. You could say it here with a fairly good chance of not getting blank looks and a visit from the nurses with screens.
Anyhoo, I am done with my song / drone. More of me next week, you'll all be glad to hear!
Pigfarmer Jr wrote:I looked at the references and the musical ones at least are all or mostly from the U.K. beginning in the 80's.
Yep - I think Aristophanes played bass for A Flock of Seagulls
Didn't realize the Aristophanes reference was to a musical. But I guess Greek plays had music in them so I should have.
More specifically I was referring to the Pop Culture references toward the bottom of the page and in particular the musical references listed in that section.
The first three entries:
On their 1985 album Virgins & Philistines, The Colourfield used the phrase prominently in the track "Faint Hearts," and four years later the UK pop-rock group The Lightning Seeds named their 1989 debut album Cloudcuckooland.
In the song "Like Spinning Plates" by the English rock band Radiohead, lead singer Thom Yorke sings, "I'm living in Cloud cuckoo land."
Cloudcuckooland is the name of a 1990 Album released by the British band Lightning Seeds.
My point merely being it is more common in the U.K. than over here. And yes that's an assumption based on my own experience and a partial list from Wikipedia. So take it for what it's worth.
OK, I'm in with something that will most likely annoy the piss out of about 50% of the reviewers. That isn't my goal, but it usually seems to be the outcome!
And btw Denni - I accidentally got the right idea, too, before I even read all of these posts. Great (or bat shit crazy!) minds must think alike
Yea, I lost my groove...I lost my groove all over the place - Kat Criswell
If I can get a few dying embers out of my laptop's sudden demise last night (which I am hopeful about) Andy & I shall be in with more drone-rep-pop. The wonk knob turned down a notch or two this week (i.e. I didn't drench every track in different kinds of reverb)
Hew... I just finished the song. It's 4:09 in the morning. Gave me a big headache with the production part and I am not 100% sure about it but it's what I am capable of right now. Hope your ears will not suffer too much by hearing this tryout.
I'm in. I didn't look up the title reference. Whatdyeknow, it's an actual thing. But yay, my entry actually could sound like I did know what it meant.
Anyway, here's the thing. My entry is an INSTRUMENTAL, ok? I don't feel like singin'. But I want to play. So there it is. Here's my attempt at proving it was written all this week:
1. The "cloud" reference will be obvious
2. There is a cuckoo reference, twice, at about 1:00 and again at about 3:00

Awesome! I BARELY got mine in!
Sleep, then more insanity stuff. Then probably try to do something sane for Nur Ein (three slightly separated chuckles). It's probably going to be just as demented as this and the other couple things i did this weekend tho. *head shake*
Great minds. Yep. Shonuff.

I ADORE instrumentals. So this will be a treat for me!

I think you've clearly established your ability to pull off instrumentals with a strong link to the title.
Mine is instrumental as well, and is also strongly linked to the title. Many folks might not get it though.
Looking forward to listening to all the submissions. I'm not sure how many fights I've been in, probably 5 or 6 total, but I've started and/or finished several others that were never submitted. Glad to actually finish one.

I was in the same situation now with an unfinished thing, but I was thinking whada heck... the whole fight is suposed to be about fun and sharing. Won't do any good if i'm keepen' it only for myself
Or putting it in another way - why punish myself with an unfinished thing when I can punish others too... (just kiddin')

I'm keepin' mine to myself this time. I have done enough punishing over the years. And after an hour of working with cuckoo-clock samples - it suddenly dawned on me - Wow! This is really crap!. I'm going to bed.
