SpinTunes #3

Post by Spintown »

http://spintunes.blogspot.com/2011/05/s ... rules.html

I just posted the rules for the new SpinTunes. It doesn't start until after Nur Ein, but I'll be posting a draft of the schedule & a sign up page sometime this week. I'll use this thread to post updates. In the first 2 contest I've had members of this community compete & judge, and I'm hoping the same will happen again in this 3rd edition. There have been a couple rule changes so if you were involved in past contests you might want to read them over.

I don't think anyone has "fogot" something. :P

Anyway, can't wait and I'll definitely be competing again (and this time it won't be as a shadow).

Hoe the heck did you get Glenn to judge? I can't even get him to respond to my Facebook messages these days!

Oh well, with his involvement, mine is sealed. I'll be signing up soon. Just want to get a new press photo, since I don't really look anything like that old one anymore.

I've been trying to get Glenn to judge since the very first contest. I was finally able to nag him into doing it. He tweets from time to time, so I suggest contacting him that way if you have trouble getting responses. That's usually how I hit him up. Glad you're back in the game.

I think the judges are a good mix overall. You have the first Nur Ein winner, the previous SpinTunes winner & the previous Masters Of Song Fu winner. Not to mention 2 other talented musicians as judges.

Just giving you guys an update. The sign-up period for SpinTunes #3 is almost over. If you don't get your sign-up forms in by the end of the day June 7th (my time, not yours), you missed the boat.

The judges have picked all 4 challenges already.

I've lined up 4 guest judges for round 1...hopefully they all come through. If so, it looks like there could be as many as 11 different reviews posted on the blog. (again, that's if nobody chokes)

The total number of entries so far is more than both SpinTunes 1 & SpinTunes 2 combined. I still expect at least 2 or 3 more before sign-ups are over.

Link to the sign-up page is posted above in a previous reply.

I just posted the profiles for everyone that signed up. 59 total people are in SpinTunes #3. Which is great, but trying to beat that total for SpinTunes 4 will be tough. 60 is a nice round number to shoot for though.

The first challenge will be posted on Thursday between 12-1AM.

The list of people who were eliminated by the round 1 deadline has been posted. It was a lot of people, but there were still 37 people who manged to turn in songs before the deadline. Not to mention all the shadow entries we have so far.

http://spintunes.blogspot.com/2011/06/r ... -news.html

The Round 1 listening party will be tonight at 8PM my time. (I'm in Ohio, figure it out) Everyone is welcome to stop by & listen to all the new songs as they're played for the first time. All of them will be made available for free download right after the LP.

The LP is going to be held here:

I'm so bummed I couldn't make it, even with a reminder. I knew I was about to get real busy in real life right when spin 3 started because this is my busy time of year in the pool business and with the economy the way it is, I can't turn anything away. I'm crossing my fingers for spin 4. ;)
Good luck all.

Why do you keep doing that? Just say "Eastern" or "EST" and we'll all know.

Spin, I was born in Bowling Green Ohio. Lived in Stow a good part of my youth before moving to Cali. Deep down I'm a country boy. Too deep to notice, lol.

Because when I put EST some people in other countries complained that I should put EDT, and when I changed it to that people complained that they wanted EST. I said fuck it...let them figure it out. I usually have a timer to the correct time linked on the top of the blog anyways.

Been there a few times, nice area.

No one can argue with UTC. 8-)
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

Please don't download individual tracks, and download the entire album if you hear something you want. BandCamp limits the amount of free downloads I can give away, and 1 album download counts the same as a song download. But here's the link to the songs:

You can vote for your 5 favorites on the SpinTunes blog.

Have to say, as a first time participant, even just shadowing, this is fun! I had a great time at the Listening Party last night. A lot of fantastic songs! Looking forward to hearing and writing more.

Zulu time is definitive, but the count-down clock is a handy tool.

Very glad you decided to participate. Wish you would have signed up in time to be a regular participant, but there is always SpinTunes #4 in Jan. The goal is to do this twice a year. Once in Jan, and once in June after Nur Ein.

Jan and June. Great song title. My song would be about lesbian lovers that March proudly, but Jan falls and hits her head and gets amnesia. From that day forward, she can't November anything. :P

lol I personally think of Dean Martin singing "June In January", but that's the second thought that popped into my head. *not really, but now it's stuck there*

Dean Martin? Who's that, the guy that died on route 66 or the breakfast sausage guy?

edit: Never mind, he's the guy that did the "arrow through the head" gag on SNL and the King Tut song.

edit 2: Charlie Sheens dad? Winning? :?
