Last Call by The Worldly Self-Assurance
This is the last call of the day
My phone's the only one switched on
Hold music loops around and 'round
5 O'Clock has been and gone
For a moment the music stops
And I hear a beep
My hand starts trembling
I hold the receiver to my cheek
You haven't said a word to me since August of the previous year
Thought our friendship was done for good and you would one day disappear
Your voice come on the line, my withered heart's alive again my dear
I thought about it too hard before making this call
I never rushed in, that doesn't mean I'm not a fool
Some problems are big, but this one is small
I never rushed in, that doesn't mean I'm not a fool
With every quiet word you say
I never want to go to sleep
If I could reach right through this thing
And bring you back to me
The music hits a sour note
You have to go
My hand stops trembling
I throw the receiver to the floor
I thought about it too hard before making this call
I never rushed in, that doesn't mean I'm not a fool
Some problems are big, but this one is small
I never rushed in, that doesn't mean I'm not a fool
I thought about it too hard before making this call
I never rushed in, that doesn't mean I'm not a fool
Some problems are big, but this one is small
I never rushed in, that doesn't mean I'm not a fool

Last Call - Paco del Stinko
Exhale as you hang up the phone
You tell yourself it's for the last time
Put on your garter and your hose
Being careful to adjust the line
Grab your purse and close the door
Just like you've done one thousand times before
Telling yourself it will be fine
Smoke a cigarette as you drive
You catch your eye in the mirror
When did you last feel alive
Way back when youth was nearer?
Now it's time to turn off the hurt
And park the car down by the curb
The task at hand could not be clearer
How'd it all begin? - You were just a kid
And then you had one of your own
Someday it will be all done - reunited with my son
A little house with picket fence - and the feel of permanence
But it all seems far away...
So you did what you had to do
You've become numb to the pain
Back to the car feeling the blues
Like a teardrop lost in the rain
With your hair and mascara spent
You've just gone where you've already went
You drive on home knowing the truth
This ain't your last call
This ain't your last call
This ain't your last call
Your last call
Exhale as you hang up the phone
You tell yourself it's for the last time
Put on your garter and your hose
Being careful to adjust the line
Grab your purse and close the door
Just like you've done one thousand times before
Telling yourself it will be fine
Smoke a cigarette as you drive
You catch your eye in the mirror
When did you last feel alive
Way back when youth was nearer?
Now it's time to turn off the hurt
And park the car down by the curb
The task at hand could not be clearer
How'd it all begin? - You were just a kid

This ain't your last call
This ain't your last call
Your last call
