It doesn't have to be done (or even started for that matter) when you show up. You could improvise something even, but you'd probably get heckled. You might want to at least finish it before the live fight starts, which is typically a couple hours before the closing time of the Sunday night show.

Typically, the title gets released about a week before the live show. The bands are expected (though not required) to have a song ready to perform by the end of the second day's event, as the "live fight" is always the last segment of the show. The live fight is separate from the actual fight that will be posted on the website, and has a separate means of scoring (namely, audience applause). The winners, as you might expect, don't always correlate. Last year, the live fight was won by Jonathan Mann, but King Arthur took the online fight. Most of the artists submit the live recordings of the performance as their entry into the main fight, but this isn't required either. For instance, I was so dissatisfied with how my "Hello My Old Heart" turned out that I opted not to enter it into the main fight.

Man, this live thing is complicated and mysterious and I feel like I'm going to be awkward and commit tons of faux pas's. That's OK because it's at a bar.
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

Song is written, unfortunately not about hauling anything... But it's pretty. If I'm bringing friends and they are obscenely loud, does that count as vote flooding the live fight?

Can someone figure out how to write dark theatrical lyrics for this tie dull? I'm in an angry mood. 8)

Dauphin Island is actually a bit of a vacation destination. Potentially, a honeymoon spot. This could be the story: man goes on honeymoon with wife, discovers she is having an affair - or liason, to follow the French theme. This also allows you to incorporate your p-into-v references as well.

Anger, sadness, ennui, p-into-v. Just spitballin' here.

Dauphine Island is a secret government facility where they transfer prisoners and perform experiments. You could have been in jail for petty theft or marijuana possession, but once you're transferred to Dauphine Island, your future is certainly terrible death. The experiments performed are those to analyze the effects of torture (ironically) such that they know how to train soldiers in the event that they are tortured. As you can imagine, the limits are endless when it comes to the ways to torture a man... car batteries, lye, meat grinders... Is this injustice for the greater good, or is it unequivocally evil? You decide in your song.

Dauphin Island used to be one long, thin unit with a kind of a bulb at one end. In 2005, Katrina cut off most of the long bit.

Given the way this thread is going, I'm sure you can work with that.

I have a musical idea for this, but I would need Doug Kershaw to pull it off. (Ouch, did I say "pull it off"? Sorry.) Also, every so often, a not-unrelated melody from Dvorak's Symphony for the New World obtrudes. But I have no words whatsoever, so I'm not giving it high hopes.

[EDIT] I just noticed in that NASA link that the neighbouring islands are called "Horn Island" and "Petit Bois" (little wood). It's almost too much to ex-pecked.

Hey, some great ideas, thanks.

I'm having images of this happy vacation resort having a dark secret that takes place in the unknown subterranean catacombs that were built in the early 1800 to keep lepers from infecting the world. Around 173 years later, a rich tycoon bought the island to build a golf country club and resort. To cut corners and save money, he didn't demo the old dungeons nor move the grave sites as he was instructed and paid off the building inspector to keep his mouth shut. When reports surfaced of vacationers mysteriously waking up in a bathtub full of ice and missing an organ, the building inspector threatened to go to the police. So the tycoon shows him his little guillotine and to warn the inspector what will happen to him if he talks, he tests it on a cucumber. :shock:

@Roy. Thanks for nothing? :D

Are we sure we can leave Caravan Ray and BLT alone here while the rest of us are in New York? It seems like tempting fate....

Anyway, mine's written, though I keep going back and tweaking things. I'm hoping to incite / invite an Erin McKweon-style sing-along for the end.

And it actually does involve haulers, but the crustacean kind, not the penile.
