Niv, I'll play wherever you think I fit logically on Saturday. I'm doing an entirely acoustic set, lots of songs (subject to time constraints) and I like playing for people. So whenever you think it will be crowded. :)

Is it going to be a huge pain in the ass if I play in standard-flat tuning, or should I try to bring my own guitar?

Also: preference for earlier on Saturday.
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

Storm!

Wow. NYC just got hit with quite a storm. How big is this storm? If this storm was a fight, it would be Bruce Lee vs. Jet Li vs. Chuck Norris with winner getting the right to shag Princess Leia in the slave girl outfit.

This may be a good sign. Hopefully it will pass by Saturday morning.

You'd probably be better off bringing your own guitar if you need one that's in Eb (that's what you mean, right?). Tuning another guitar down just for your set will probably not work very well, but who knows? I'm just guessing.

Yeah the more I think about it, the more it makes sense to bring my own. I'm sure this has been answered: Will someone have a guitar mic or acoustic pickup?

We can probably mic up your guitar, but I think so far folks have just offered to bring acoustic-electrics, so there hasn't been a need yet for a separate pickup or to mic an acoustic guitar.

I was picky and only this guitar without electronics would do. I've been meaning to buy a fancy pickup thing... maybe I should just do it.

I have one of those pickups that goes in the sound hole. Also, digital tuners make retuning a guitar pretty easy.

I'm more just wondering if we'll have guitars that are going to be able to handle being retuned down a half step, then actually stay in tune for a set, then get retuned back to standard and continue to stay in tune after that.

I've been eying up this pickup for a while so I just went ahead and bought it, but thanks Roy. And I figure I'll be more confident if I use my own guitar. So all is well.

That's not to say my set will be any good or I'll remember the words. 8-)

Hopefully the TSA doesn't break anything.

I have exactly one song in drop-d. Will that offend people?

I highly doubt it. Drop-D is easy: one string, two half steps. Pshaw.

Now _I_ was going to try and do a DADGAD tune. Then thought better of it. :-)

On a completely unrelated note, Niv: early on Saturday is fine by me. Hell, I might as well go first - then I get to sit back and enjoy everybody else's without being distracted by my nerves.

I think I'd rather go on Sunday, later in the window.

I am available to sing harmonies, on songs that I either know or which I can pick up last minute, or on later choruses and such.

Hmmm. There are a lot of Sunday requests and Saturday is the larger timeslot.
I'll figure out something.

I can go over a half hour if requested. Flying my guitar in may as well pay off as much as possible. 8-)

And I'd be glad to add ad-hock tambourine/backing vocals to others' songs.

I'm kind of excited. Manhattan Glutton playing for the first time in ... well, Queens. I'm drinking a Manhattan right now!

I don't have a guitar, but I have some songs that i play guitar on. as long as I can play SOME piano just cuz I LIKE to, if you need to shuffle or shorten my bit on Sunday to make room for others I'm fine if someone passes me a guitar for a little whileish.
Or I could just clap and talk about pirhannas.

...Ohmygod I'm totally kidding.

Can also do stuff if needed. And am in Connecticut right now but can be elsewhere if fun stuff is happening. Should have come to the fun tonight but was dealing with some drama :)

Cannot WAIT to meet.. even MORE people :)

Connecticut snob!

If you want to talk about lame, I wasn't even meant to be there - I have a Jewish wedding on Sunday I must attend and I get into NYC tomorrow night. This is how they hook you. Next thing you know, you're volunteering your locale and booking gigs for the Song Fight monster.

If Jon Eric isn't as personable as he is online, I will be sadly disappointed. I seriously can't wait for all the initial confrontations - that's going to be the best part! And I'm trying to get a NY friend from online to visit me at the same time!

But hey! if anybody needs a Hendrix (E-flat) tuned guitar...

Update on my status: I'm so so so sorry but I've been invited and gone to the opposite coast to work and collaborate with Jonathan Mann, Nick Krill, Thomas Hughes et. al (that's Carol Cleveland Sings and Spinto band) on the Song a Day project. I will not be able to attend this live event, which is really awful and a terrible inconvenient coincidence as I do actually live in New York! Damn this would have been fun.

BUT: (and it's a big but) Maybe we at Songatron HQ can perform live for you via our web stream somehow if that's at all possible to get going on some kind of screen at one of the nights?

Promise I'll be at the next one no matter where it is. (Includes Reykjavik, Iceland.)

Hey now, what's that all about?! :\
I'm still trying to figure out if I'm taking the train down or driving... argh! It shouldn't be this difficult or anxiety riddled... but it is. I'd feel better if I had someone coming with me as a co-pilot. Ah well... I'll get it sorted. See ya'll tomorrow.

Seriously? I'm trying to head over there today. Are you there now? Are you Barton?

You know, the Sunday 6pm Pacific live broadcast thing actually would coincide with the live fight next Sunday. So maybe we could work something out where we set up a laptop on a chair on stage and plug it in to the PA if you guys want to be in the live fight.

1) He's Barton.
2) There is a projector there, I can probably get the owner to let us use it. This could work.
