So, being new-ish (w/in last couple years) to songfight and not being super-familiar with the archives...
I have a gig tomorrow and am meant to sing 2 hours worth of sea shanties while being dressed like a sailor for the launch party of a nautically themed analog camera. These are not necessarily pirate-y in nature, but not prohibitive of pirate lore either.
Is there any shanty-like material that anyone here has done that I should be aware of, which I should be covering? I'm asking around before I just hit a random website and grab ten easy fixes. I want to do fun stuff too!

Yo ho ho and a bottle of Viagra! This is so weird because I was just looking for some sea chanties yesterday to score a home movie from our last family reunion which involved a cruise ship. I found this cool little site. http://www.contemplator.com/sea/index.html
My song "Made to be Played" was a sea shanty-ish song. I guess. It kind of sucked.
Check out Ween's Mollusk album. There are at least 2 or 3 good ones on there. "She Wanted To Leave", "The Blarney Stone", "Cold Blows the Wind" At least, I think they're shanties. I'm sure they won't mind if you play "Ocean Man" or "The Mollusk" as well. And "Polka Dot Tail"... ok i'm listening to the album now.
Just play anything in 3/4 and you're fine. Wish I could be there... my favorite time sig!
PS: Ween kicks ass.
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.
I'm chasing all this up right now. I'll be up all night. I'll be playing this set in 102ish degree weather on a bridge. I'm glad I'm getting paid because I feel persecuted. wah, wah. I told y'all I was going to whine about the heat when I got home. Thanks for the direction tho, it was helpful because I am listening to songfight songs and working at the same time! Also one of my facebook friends is from a long line of merchant seamen. She knew some shanties.

I covered a traditional Celtic tune called "the house carpenter" for GoM (gift of music)... Is is rather nautical in theme despite the name. It's about the devil, disguised as a sailor, tempting the wife of a carpenter. Pretty cool
