Isle Dauphine
by Jon Eric

You were the girl who had it all
Your dad played golf at this resort
I was the one who fetched the balls
I never liked him or his sport

I used to want you
But then a hurricane sectioned the island in two
And that is all that's left to be seen of Isle Dauphine

Katrina turned us gently
Into an exclamation point
Your folks left permanently
I had to stay to fix the joint

I used to want you
But then a hurricane sectioned the island in two
And then you disappeared from the scene on Isle Dauphine

Did you want a fur coat? You got it.
Did you want a big boat? You got it.
Did you want another $17 million castle with a moat? You got it.

Did you want the best pot? You got it.
Wanna be a big shot? You got it.
Did you want to throw gala party for no reason on your yacht? You got it.

Did you want to drive a Porsche? You got it.
Did you want ride a horse? You got it.
Did you want to play caddy for your dad while he drives around our golf course? Nope!

(solo)

I used to want you
But then a hurricane sectioned the island in two
And you and yours were not again seen on Isle Dauphine
I used to want you
But then a hurricane sectioned the island in two
And this is all that's left to be seen on Isle Dauphine
This is all that's left to be seen on Isle Dauphine.

I thought things'd be the same again
We'd move back to Richmond
But I guess she's moving home to tennessee
We kept on fighting
And we kept on crying
Well I guess she just kept crying when I'd leave
Well isle dauphine
With all the things I've seen
Here on your sand
And I'll be waiting
As your waves come crashing over me
Still here I am
But I know that my day will come
I'll be washed up on your shore
And I'll count my blessings one by one
Till I'll be with my dauphine once more

Well I thought things'd be the same again
And we'd move back to Richmond
But I guess she's moving home to Tennessee
We just kept fighting
So I kept on lying
You know I tend to lie when I breath
Well isle dauphine
With all the things I've seen
Here on your sand
And I'll be waiting
For all the things you promised to me
Well here I am
And I know that my day will come
And I'll be washed up on your shore
And I'll count my blessings one by one
Till I'll be with my dauphine once more
Till I'll be with my dauphine once more

i am so lonely on this island made of greed
so far away from friendly drawls
it’s black and cold up here on this steely yankee sea
no gulf winds to calm my soul

you are home, you are home
isle dauphine, you are home

your bones are on the outside when they should not be at all
it was a scene that chilled those sailors' souls
but once they changed your name to sound like Louis' son
they came and claimed your every knoll

you are home, you are home
isle dauphine, you are home

you survive the hurricanes
with Katrina's wrath, only split in twain
the sea will always pass you by
your enchanted shores in the storms' eye
your bay of birds, your lakes of blue
your fancy balls, but your haulers too
the fleur de lys is in your past
i am the son you have raised best

you are home, you are home
isle dauphine, you are home

i'm looking forward to the beautiful scene
along the beach, looking out to the ocean

i'm going to
isle dauphine

tasty drinks, with umbrellas and coconuts
delivered to my hands by a beautiful girl i don't yet know
woah

isle dauphine
i'm going to

i'm not into golphing that much
but this island really has a nice view
and touch

everything they say about it
beaches sunny, ocean blue
when i finally arrive there
i hope it's all true
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

Down on Isle Dauphine / out on the second tee
Rich man said, "Uncle Sam / steals all my money from me.
I need a brand new Benz / I need this diamond ring."
Seemed like all his friends / agreed with all these things
When I was just sixteen / Down on Isle Dauphine.

Down on Isle Dauphine / on the eleventh hole
The rich man said to me / "I like to be in control
I like to run the show / they ought to make me king."
My heart was thinking no, but I didn't say a thing
'Cause I was just sixteen / Down on Isle Dauphine.

Maybe I was just a kid
Maybe I was that dumb
I thought this was where the trickle down
Was s'posed to trickle down from
Those who had were s'posed to make sure
Everybody had some
But as far as I could tell
It wasn't workin' very well.

Down on Dauphine Isle / Out in the parking lot
He said to me with a smile / "hang on to all that you've got
You're not too young to start / it's not a crime to cling."
It kinda broke my heart / but I didn't say a thing
When I was just sixteen / Down on Isle Dauphine.

those girls, they lie
so I'm going away to take some time
some time for me
under the sea today

your girls - they have it easy
don't say a word; no protests, absurdities
I'm going to cross oceans of greed
freeing my mind of you
getting it back to me

down, down, down to the deep
to the part of the island that sleeps
my isle of dauphine

cuz there's nothing to see

so i walked into something
requiring no thinking
shaking and metal were screaming
i'm laughing and dreaming
maybe believing my singing
thinking too wistfully
back at the edge right on time

and how i know alternatively
...i'm going to be
breathing deeply
of the isle of dauphine.

i told the girls a secret or three
and so they told the sea
or at the very least foolishly did not believe
their betrayals would get back to me

so down, down I go to the deep
the part of the island that sleeps
crying while i dive, not quite at your side
to safety ...
to my lonely
isle of dauphine

A garbage truck with a dirty found stuffed bear tied to the grill with an old Ethernet cable and various super hero action figures glued to the roof of its cab
Not at all careful when bags of trash are tossed into the powerfull jaws, so they often break and spill vile putrisities on the toxic street
This is Isle Dauphine

Blocking the road
With little remorse
Take what is mine
That falls from the vine
Rots on the ground
Swept into bags
And then it's fed to Isle Dauphine

Take my treasure
Isle Dauphine
Another man's gold
Isle Dauphine
Make it disappear
Isle Dauphine
Free us of this mess
Isle Dauphine

Teddy leads the way
Tied to the mast
He spies what to get
From his cuffs of Ethernet
A band of super heroes
Keep watch from above
but just can't help but get a little wet

Take my treasure
Isle Dauphine
Another man's gold
Isle Dauphine
Make it disappear
Isle Dauphine
Free us of this mess
Isle Dauphine

Saved only by the friends
Who join the rooftop sentinels
And watch over our past, watch over our past
Being made into future pay dirt
And dazzled by how vast the mountains are
That leave our homes each day
To landscape Isle Dauphine

Those who follow
Cover their nose
Cover their mouth
Crawl to the end
Resigned to the pace
Of our own rotting trash
Swept into bags
And fed to Dauphine

Take my treasure
Isle Dauphine
Another man's gold
Isle Dauphine
Make it disappear
Isle Dauphine
Free us of this mess
Isle Dauphine

Only if there's an action figure or stuffed animal found does the 20 ton machine stop to attached it to the cab somehow
Isle Dauphine breaths fire and billows black smoke as it crawls to the next stop followed by a row of cars caught in its cloud of stench
Inching forward for eternity

This is isle Dauphine

Isle Dauphine - Sockpuppet

My isle dauphine
She'll never come clean
What does she mean
She'll never go clean
Oh, isle dauphine

She walks down the aisle
All of the while
I'm thinking I'll
Walk single file
Oh, isle dauphine

I heard what she said, and
She's turning all red
Might as well be dead for
Everything she said
Oh, isle dauphine

She's walking the border with
everything in order and
takes off the garter and
Runs a bit harder
Oh, isle dauphine

My isle dauphine
She'll never come clean
What does she mean
She'll never go clean
Oh, isle dauphine

The grass sure is green for this time of year,
It's 75 and the sky is clear.
I've been at it since the crack of dawn
Drinking bloody marys in the country club.
My polyester polo is so comfortable,
It has microfibers that are breathable.
The maid cleans up while my wife shops,
And I get to spend all day playing golf!

Stuck in the sand, Play Through, Play Through
Cramp in my hand, Play Through, Play Through
The cart won't start, Play Through, Play Through
I drank too drunk, Play Through, Play Through

Frittatas at the brunch buffet,
Now I'm sluggish but that's ok,
I may be swinging over par,
I'm too relaxed to get pissed off.
I'm having so much fun golfing with my friends!
I hope this vacation never ends!
I'll sell my house and quit my job,
Spend the rest of my life in khaki shorts

Stuck in the sand, Play Through, Play Through
Cramp in my hand, Play Through, Play Through
The cart won't start, Play Through, Play Through
I drank too drunk, Play Through, Play Through

Isle Dauphine - by Abjure!

We met in June on a rainy day
Off Manhattan Beach
That's my New York City reference
I know it's a reach

Falling in love
Under the main sail
With the cutest little lady
Who ever had a tail

CHORUS
We gave her radiation
We gave her chemo
We even took her to a doctor
By the name of Nemo
Oh, my darling of the sea
How I do miss
My miss
My ill dolphine

Those days were good
They were full of wins
With you between my thighs
And me between your fins

You were always so considerate
I never had a doubt
When you held my manhood
So gently with your snout

BRIDGE
I could have had a flounder
Or any piscatarian wish
But the only love I could ever share
Wasn't even a fish

We gave her radiation
We gave her chemo
We even took her to a doctor
By the name of Nemo
Oh, my darling of the sea
How I do miss
My miss
My ill dolphine
blippity blop ya don’t stop heyyyyyyyyy

Isle Dauphine - by gizo

Seventy-two
I'm going to need a handicap to get close to you
But I don't really care
I'm just here to soak up the sun, the sea, the air

Down in the South
You're playing close to par
you're down, you're down around the mouth
But I don't really care
I'll meet you at 19
you know that I'm already there

Isle Dauphine, you keep your fairways clean

Isle Dauphine (Island of the King)
by Naked Philosophy

(NOTE: This was performed at the Live Fight in New York, but was not submitted due to a lack of recording equipment at the event. I wanted to post the lyrics for posterity's sake.)

You throw gasoline on a burning man
While you argue about who struck the match
You stand behind your ignorance
And don't see that there's a catch

From the heart of darkest Brooklyn
To the Island of the King
It's all the same
It's all the same

The sea is coming strong
And there is no way to fight
A plague that you don't understand
When you refuse to see what is right

From the heart of darkest Brooklyn
To the Island of the King
It's all the same
It's all the same

When it's all under water, will it be the same to you?

From the heart of darkest Brooklyn
To the Island of the King
It's all the same
It's all the same
