I think that number would be the worldwide populations of dromedarys and bactrian camels combined. It probably doesn't include South American members of the Camelidae family.tviyh wrote:kamakura -- do you mean camels in australia, or worldwide?
Australia probably has up to a million feral dromedarys. There are some concerns that these (along with feral horses and donkeys) may one day replace kangaroos as the dominant large herbivore in Australia
And yes, Australia has almost 20 million feral Homo sapiens. The Australian government is currently exploring various culling strategies with their US allies

i had a song featured in a web-cast today, which also featured an interview with john buckman of magnatune.com, where my first album is being sold, and where my new one is slated to go sometime this month or next.
anyhow, here's the link. the interview's pretty cool, and my song was the first one played!! w00t

Sorry to cause such consternation. I got this 'fact' from a blog, thought it interesting and posted it. Naturally I didn't bother to check its veracity...Caravan Ray wrote:I've been thinking further on this fascinating tidbit.Kamakura wrote:Australians slightly outnumber camels. Since there are approximately 731, 984 feral Australian dromedarys - have these been counted as camels, as Australians or both?

there was this other guy who was doing the same thing except he would pre-determine his destinations by utilizing the internet. People would message him via web site with offers of hospitality. He would take them up on it and line his dates up to correspond with his trip. He'd stay at each place for just a short time, maybe a couple of days. Of course like this guy he would document his journey and update his website.
Of course I can't remember the web site.

It's a reference to the year the titles "Duke" and "Dutchess" were first used, wich, as you know, were popularised in the american hit songs "Pass The Dutchie" and "Duke of Earl."
Slang is weird here.
oh, I mean here's the real, long, horrible answer.
