Has Been For Years - Paco del Stinko
You don't see, you have no eyes
You're not free, that's no lie
On a leash, being led
Same as me, until we're dead
The system is broken - the game is fixed
It's always been this way - It's just a trick
The founding fathers - lied to us all
Now we're generations of thoughtless sheep - grazing at the mall
You can't see, you have no eyes
You're not free, that's no lie
On a leash, being led
Same as me, until we're dead
We have every comfort - yet we still complain
Bitch and moan about getting soaked - without a drop of rain
Those that vote and think it counts - electing someone greasy
Most of us would rather sit at home- watching re-runs on TV
This protest is brought to you
By a hungry, hungry monster
I guess you were fooled
By its anonymous corporate sponsor
You can't see, you have no eyes
You're not free, that's no lie
On a leash, being led
Same as me, until we're dead

HAS BEEN FOR YEARS
(The Cavalryman's Lament)
by Sportswriters
In the town where I grew
There's a girl on a swing
With eyes of such blue
And a softness of skin
I see her there still
In a dress of pure white
Like a daguerrotype
Of an arrow in flight
I was twenty-one years
When I saw her that day
I am twenty-one still
Though her hair is now gray
Her eyes were upon me
As I rode away
With my brothers in arms
And ten dollars in pay
Smoke rises up
From the village below
Blood mars the banks
Where the river bends slow
Here I fell to the earth
Fifty summers ago
With sword in my hand
And a stain on my soul
As we made our first charge
I could swear that I knew
The voice of the girl
With the eyes of such blue
In the cries of the women
And children we slew
But their men were too many
And we were too few
The shadows grow long
And the trees they grow tall
Fifty summers have gone
But I age not at all
I lie in the ground
With my face to the sun
As my skin and my bones
And my flesh turn to dust
And the earth I become
But the girl on the swing
Is the memory I hold
Her skin remains soft
Her hair is still gold
Like the girl on the swing
I will never grow old
I lie here and wait
Through the rain and the cold
These bones bleached to white
Are my last souvenirs
The cavalry's coming
It has been for years

Re: Has Been For Years
Has Been for Years
The thing that we were has long since decayed
-- we were, has long since decayed
It’s rotted and ruined and wasted away
-- it’s rotted and ruined and wasted away
A porcelain veil we only don for
-- A mask we put on for
The sake of our pride, our kids, and our town
-- our pride, out kids, and our down
But it should have been buried deep in the ground
-- should have been buried deep in the ground
A mask of fallacy of duty and honor
Embrace all the fears
Find solace in tears
It’s over, It’s clear
And has been for years
I know that it’s easy for you to say
-- Easy for you to say
My fear and hunger wasted it away
-- Wasted it away
That I burned your soul in flames of my desire
-- I was burning in your fire
It’s my fault that you never learned to fly
-- I chained your wings, you couldn’t fly
And I chained you down to a railroad tie
-- Chained you down to a railroad tie
Maniacally laughing as the train grew nigh
-- As the train grew nigh
Did all my gifts really come with a catch?
-- Whatcha want, Whatcha want, Whatcha want from me?
Was I an image of only a wretch,
-- Whatcha need, Whatcha need, Whatcha need from me?
Whose very existence was only through you?
-- Whatcha want, Whatcha want, Whatcha need me to do?
Enslaved, we were trapped in toxicity
-- I lived through you because you needed me to
Choking each other: a rose and tree
-- I choked you because I loved you
Don’t you see the truth, you held me back too?
-- Everything I did, you asked me to do
Embrace all the fears
Find cleansing in tears
It’s over, It’s clear
And has been for years
I will stand up, I will rise up, never give up, never live shut
Won’t accept rage, won’t accept hate, I’ll seek the spirit, I’ll seek a new fate
I will live proud, never lay down, I’ll seek a new crowd, in an old town
You can’t hold me, or control me, no more to scold me, that’s the old me
I’m a new thing, a bird that can sing, and bring anything, out of nothing
For though you left me, bereft and lonely, with death inside me, you don’t own me
You betrayed me--abused me, left me and used me, the tragedy would be, to let that define me
Through your hate and betrayal, I became a contrail, something less frail, no longer in jail
For this prison we were, is only a blur, an artist’s soft brush, or a lover’s lost touch
I wont leave it behind, those years are still mine, but the wounds heal in time, and I know I’ll be fine
Once these gashes are burned out, the scars will leave no doubt
Of proof that I got out, my soul lead the breakout
To liberty, instead of livery, because the past you see, was simply slavery
All our baggage, fear and dark rage, forged a new cage, left us in bondage, seeking a new age
The love we felt, in the hand we were dealt, was consumed by our tears, and and has been for years
Release all the fears
Find healing in tears
Freedom is here
And has been here for years
The thing that we were has long since decayed

Re: Has Been For Years
Music by me, lyrics by Sara:
"Has Been For Years"
You look at me like I planned this, I don't understand why
Yes, I've been saving all these years to hurt you and to waste them
We've been numb for awhile and only now you notice pain
You're the first to point fingers but the last to say the truth out loud
Has been for years shifting plates underneath us
Am I really the only one here to blame?
Push your hatred away from me 'cause you can't say I'm stopping you, I'm gone
Don't want you to be held by what we were 'cause it wasn't enough
So yeah I spoke of that crack we've been stepping around
And what came to your lips was money. But I've been speaking of loss of other kinds
I can see the picture that you're painting but it isn't me waiting for the fog to lift
And it isn't me greedily watching everything divide
And it isn't you keeping me satisfied tonight
Has been for years shifting plates underneath us
Am I really the only one here to blame?
Push your hatred away from me 'cause you can't say I'm stopping you, I'm gone
Don't want you to be held by what we were 'cause it wasn't enough

Re: Has Been For Years
HAS BEEN FOR YEARS
[Billy and the Psychotics]
you stare
through the haze of the game -
you play like you've got a plan,
as if you're gonna change
i've got your number
but you don't have mine
you gave it out like
you were knocking back the cheap wine
you write and protest
you say you like it this way best
she lays her heart down
expects it to be just fine
but you wonder if you should walk this time away
back the way you came
is it a little less crazy?
CH
you say it's time to get off the ride
should you decide to get off your roller coaster
so you call your shots
but nobody hears
just like the voice inside
has been for years
don't just stand there
and stare through the haze
saying you've got a plan
to get out of the maze
you're like the tunnel
at the end of light
it's the crack of the morning
at the back of the night

Re: Has Been For Years
Berkeley Social Scene
Lyrics- Mahru/Phillips
Verse 1
barely breathing a lifeless form
remote control smooth and worn
volume stuck a bit too loud
earplugs in to avoid the sound
Double your pleasure
Double your fun
Follow your instincts
Follow the sun
Chorus 1
Sit on the couch and watch the news
Get up to adjust the rabbit ears
Same old story on a different day
and it has been for years
Talking heads that make no sense
vanity is all that’s left
change the channel, twist the dial
nothing new, only in denial
Verse 2
hardly thinking my own thoughts
consumed by all the stuff I bought
advert told me to collect
fear and hope and government
Subtle adventure
subtle as one
willing to rethink
willing to run
Chorus 2
Sit on the couch and watch the news
Get up to adjust the rabbit ears
Same old story on a different day
and it has been for years
Locking step with arrogance
teach yourself to do the dance
do the research, point and click
the media is getting sick
Chorus 3
Sit on the couch and watch the news
Get up to adjust the rabbit ears
Same old story on a different day
and it has been for years
Indexing the shocking scenes
serve them up with suffering
When there’s little left to consume
brave a walk in the Blue Room

Re: Has Been For Years
I got me a little boy
Born just yesterday
All he does is shit and cry
I guess he's got nothing to say
Don't know what to call him
Never told me his name
I gotta find him something
That'll bring glory or fame
He don't look like a John or Fred
Or a George or Jake
I could call him Elizabeth
But it's more than he could take
I'm just gonna pull a name out of a hat
It's a perfect solution, what do you think of that?
It's better than a corn toss with a meglomaniac
I'm just gonna pull a name out of the hate
That's the best way to choose a name and it has been for years
I walked out of the hospital
Carrying a bundle of joy
He's a might screamer
with the ability to annoy
The lady on the news broadcast
Says Michael is his name
But I think I'll make that choice
Thank you just the same
All these cops are racing 'round
Searching for a trace
They don't know where we are
They're losing the race
Chorus
Born just yesterday
All he does is shit and cry
I guess he's got nothing to say

Has Been For Years by Shambles Square ft. MC Heapey
“We were promised jet-packs” so the latest brat-pack say
Flight is not their right - what’s wrong with young-uns of today?
If we gave you one, you’d only break it anyway, - so
Go turn on your radar*, cos tomorrow is today! - you’re
Sat in office cubicle*, enjoying virtual reality*?
Both were first predicted some time late in the last century!
Blog that science is just fiction? Couldn’t be much dopier! I’ll
Give you lazer surgery* for utopia myopia!
Getting all nostalgic for things that do not yet exist?
Like grannies out in Vegas, you’re just far too full of whist!
Please put down your i-pad*, take those phones out your ears*
(future’s here! the future’s here! And has been for years)
Stop
Acting up. You’re more dramatic than Paul Bettany, and
Now’s the time to disinvest you of your blind cretiny -
Credit card* can’t buy you freedom from blind reality
Proof of future’s all around like nice CCTV*,
World has never owed you trendy silver flying car
Like a sub* in dry dock, won’t be going very far,
‘til you see that world whose lack you constantly bemoan
Is everywhere, yes, here and there ,in every toy you own
Scowling like you’ve watched ten episodes of Will & Grace
Back to back - cut now some slack - it’s ace like Pigs in Space!
You know all too H G Wells there’s nothing here to fear
(Future’s here! the future’s here! and has been for years)
Stop
Sticking gum between the future’s automatic doors* - ‘cos
Refusing news that kingdom’s come’s pursuing a lost cause
Don’t waste your energy on running up down escalator*, you’ll
End up manic miner, down like depressed scuba diver*! - oh,
How ever did we cope til they invented mobile phones*,
And internet* was piped to every room around our homes?
Was it really living? How’d humanity survive? Now I’m
Sat here on the lav, broadcasting truth out to you live!
Let me drop the news on ya like harmless neutron bomb*
Skype* your pals, the here and now has been here all along
I’m riding out on mission, science fiction Paul Revere,
(Future’s here! the future’s here! and has been for years)
Repeat first chorus
*all these items were accurately predicted in science fiction. Unlike jetpacks and flying cars
